While traveling, an airplane passenger placed a bag of potato chips in his checked luggage. When he opened the luggage, the bag

had exploded and potato chips were everywhere in his luggage. Which gas law is this an example of?A) Avogadro's Law B) Ideal Gas Law C) Charles's Law D) Boyle's Law E) Dalton's Law

Answer:

D) Boyle's Law

Explanation:

Boyle's law states that:

"For a fixed mass of an ideal gas kept at constant temperature, the pressure of the gas is inversely proportional to its volume".

Mathematically, it can be written as

p \propto \frac{1}{V}

where

p is the pressure of the gas

V is its volume

This can also be written as

V\propto \frac{1}{p}

In this problem, we have a bag of potato chip which is placed on an airplane. When the plane reaches its cruising altitude, the pressure in the cabin is much lower than the pressure at sea level. As a result, also the pressure of the air inside the bag will also be lower (because the internal pressure tries to balance the external pressure).

According to Boyle's law, however, this means that the volume of the bag will increase: and at some point, the volume of the air inside the bag will be too big for the bag to "resist", and the bag will eventually explode.

Which of the following chemical formulas could represent a stable compound formed with an element "X" from group 1A and Oxygen?
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

2. X₂O

Explanation:

  • Elements in group 1A are known as alkali metal. Examples include lithium, sodium, and potassium among others.
  • These elements have one valence electron in the outermost energy level and therefore form cations with a charge of +1.
  • They have a valency of 2.
  • Oxygen, on the other hand,has a valency of 2.
  • Therefore, a chemical formula of a compound formed when an element in group 1A say X reacts with oxygen will be X₂O.
  • To write the formula, we identify the symbol of the elements and their valence.
  • Then the atoms of the two elements exchange their valencies which are written as a subscript on each symbol of an element.

Answer:

B

while in case of A with beta decay some gamma radiations also emit thus its not represent just gamma decay.

Explanation:

The equation B represent gamma decay while in case of A with beta decay some gamma radiations also emit thus its not represent just gamma decay.

The equation C represent the alpha decay because helium nuclei are emitted and equation D represent beta decay.

Alpha beta and gamma radiations are the examples of ionizing radiations. When an atom is an excited state and having high energy, the atom is in unstable state. The excess of energy is released by the atom to get the stability. The released energy is in the form of radiations which may include alpha, beta, gamma, X-ray etc.

Beta radiations:

Beta radiations are result from the beta decay in which electron is ejected. The neutron inside of the nucleus converted into the proton an thus emit the electron which is called β particle.

The mass of beta particle is smaller than the alpha particles.

They can travel in air in few meter distance.

These radiations can penetrate into the human skin.

The sheet of aluminium is used to block the beta radiation

⁴₆C → ¹⁴₇N + ⁰₋₁e

The beta radiations are emitted in this reaction. The one electron is ejected and neutron is converted into proton.

Properties of alpha radiation:

Alpha radiations are emitted as a result of radioactive decay. The atom emit the alpha particles consist of two proton and two neutrons. Which is also called helium nuclei. When atom undergoes the alpha emission the original atom convert into the atom having mass number less than 4  and atomic number less than 2 as compared to parent atom the starting atom.

Alpha radiations can travel in a short distance.

These radiations can not penetrate into the skin or clothes.

These radiations can be harmful for the human if these are inhaled.

These radiations can be stopped by a piece of paper.

₉₂U²³⁸   →   ₉₀Th²³⁴  + ₂He⁴  + energy

Gamma radiations:

Gamma radiations are high energy radiations having no mass.

These radiations are travel at the speed of light.

Gamma radiations can penetrate into the many materials.

These radiations are also used to treat the cancer.

Lead is used for the protection  against gamma radiations because of its high molecular density.

The lead apron are used by the person when treated with gamma radiations.

Lead shields are also used in the wall, windows and doors of the room where gamma radiations are treated, in-order to protect the surroundings.

the density of air at ordinary atmospheric pressure and 25 degrees celcius is 1.19 g/L. what is the mass, in kilograms, of the a
riadik2000 [5.3K]
The mass of the air in the room is 50 kg.

V = lwh = 15.5 ft × 12.5 ft × 8 ft = 1550 ft³

1 ft = 12 in × \frac{2.54 cm}{1 in} = 30.48 cm

V = 1550 ft³ ×(\frac{30.48 cm}{1 ft})^{3} = 4.39 × 10⁷ cm ³ = 4.39 × 10⁷mL = 4.39 × 10⁴ L

Mass = 4.39 × 10⁴ L × \frac{1.119 g}{1 L} = 5.22 × 10⁴ g = 52.2 kg

Note: The answer can have only 1 significant figure, because that is all you gave for the height of the room.

To the correct number of significant figures, the mass of the air in the room is 50 kg.

In a combustion reaction, ethanol (C2H5OH) is burned in the presence of oxygen (O2), producing carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H
charle [14.2K]
Answer:
Reactants: Ethanol (C₅H₅OH), Oxygen (O₂)

Products: Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and Water (H₂O)

Explanation:
Let’s rewrite each part of the described situation in chemical equation terms.

Ethanol - C₂H₅OH
is burned in the prescence of - +
oxygen - O₂
producing - →
carbon dioxide - CO₂
and - +
water - H₂O

Chemical equation:
C₂H₅OH + O₂ → CO₂ + H₂O

The terms on the left side of a chemical equation are reactants, and the terms on the right side of a chemical equation are products.

Therefore, since we know this, ethanol (C₂H₅OH) & oxygen (O₂) are the reactants, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) & water (H₂O) are the products.
