The correct answer to the question is: C) They control the rate of reaction.

EXPLANATION:

The control rod plays a crucial role in nuclear reaction. The main function of the control rod is to control the rate of reaction.

The nuclear chain reaction becomes uncontrolled when number of neutrons are not controlled. It is so because each decay of radioactive uranium or plutonium produces three extra neutrons which again decay the radioactive sample at a faster rate.

The control rods are made up of boron,indium and cadmium like substances. They absorb the thermal neutrons generated in each decay of radioactive specimen. In this way, they control the rate of reaction.

Based on the graph of kinetic energy given (gray curve in the graphing window), sketch a graph of the baseball's gravitational p
chubhunter [2.5K]

1) Physical principles:

a) Total mechanical energy = kinetic energy + potential energy.

b) Total mechanical energy is conserved (neglecting external forces, like drag and friction)

2) Notation:

a) Total mechanical energy: ME.

b) Kinetic energy: KE

c) Gravitational potential energy: PE

∴ ME = KE + PE = constant

3) Solution:

a) Since, ME is conserved, it is constant and would be represented in the graph by a horizontal line.

b) At start (t = 0), the ball has only KE, so KE =ME = E and PE = 0

c) As the time goes, the ball gains altitude (PE increases) and loses speed (KE decreases).

d) PE increases from 0 to a maximum value. In the graph that happens at t = 2s.

At that point, KE = 0, and PE = ME.

That is the point of highest altitude and where the speed is zero.

d) From t = 2 seg, the ball starts to lose altitude, then the ball loses PE, and gains KE.

Just before reaching the ground, at t = 4s, the ball has the same initial KE and PE as at t = 0: KE = ME and PE = 0.

The PE may be sketched on the same graph along with the KE and the ME.

The graph is attached. The red line is the ME and the blue line is the PE.

Note that at any point in the graph PE + KE = ME.

A horizontal circular platform (m = 119.1 kg, r = 3.23m) rotates about a frictionless vertical axle. A student (m = 54.3kg) walk
Murrr4er [49]

Answer:

\omega_2=5.1rad/s

Explanation:

Since there is no friction angular momentum is conserved. The formula for angular momentum thet will be useful in this case is L=I\omega. If we call 1 the situation when the student is at the rim and 2 the situation when the student is at r_2=1.39m from the center, then we have:

L_1=L_2

Or:

I_1\omega_1=I_2\omega_2

And we want to calculate:

\omega_2=\frac{I_1\omega_1}{I_2}

The total moment of inertia will be the sum of the moment of intertia of the disk of mass m_D=119.1 kg and radius r_D=3.23m, which is I_D=\frac{m_Dr_D^2}{2}, and the moment of intertia of the student of mass m_S=54.3kg at position r (which will be r_1=r=3.23m or r_2=1.39m) will be I_{S}=m_Sr_S^2, so we will have:

\omega_2=\frac{(I_D+I_{S1})\omega_1}{(I_D+I_{S2})}

or:

\omega_2=\frac{(\frac{m_Dr_D^2}{2}+m_Sr_{S1}^2)\omega_1}{(\frac{m_Dr_D^2}{2}+m_Sr_{S2}^2)}

which for our values is:

\omega_2=\frac{(\frac{(119.1kg)(3.23m)^2}{2}+(54.3kg)(3.23m)^2)(3.1rad/s)}{(\frac{(119.1kg)(3.23m)^2}{2}+(54.3kg)(1.39m)^2)}=5.1rad/s

Compared to the Pacific ocean a cup of hot chocolate has a.more thermal energy and a higher temperature)b.less thermal energy an
Eddi Din [679]

Answer:

Your answer will be A

Explanation:

The Pacific Ocean is very cold, and a cup of hot chocolate is very hot (hence the name). More thermal energy entails a higher temperature, therefore the cup of hot chocolate has more thermal energy and a higher temperature.

The energy levels the electron can occupy in the Be3+ ion can be calculated using the energy level equation. Calculate the frequ
hram777 [196]

Answer:

1.32×10^16 hz

Explanation:using Rydberg equation:

1/λ = RH •Z^2[ (1/n1) - (1/n2) ]

RH = Rydberg constant = 1.097 x 10^7 m-1)

n1 and n2 = energy levels (n2 >n1)

Z = atomic number = 4

Substitute

1/λ = 1.097×10^7 • 4^2[ (1/2) - (1/4) }

λ = 2.28 × 10^-8m

From the equation of light

C= fλ

C=3×10^8m/s

f = 3×10^8/2.28×10^-8

f = 1.32×10^16 hz
