In the visual system, each retinal ganglion cell demonstrates convergence of information because:
eduard

Answer:

In the visual system, the convergence of information is due to the fact that each cell of the retinal ganglion cell can demonstrate that information it sends to the brain comes from many photoreceptors (option B).

Explanation:

The retina is a structure formed by photoreceptors, called cones and rods. The photoreceptors attached to each retinal ganglion cell can form its visual reception field, while the group of ganglion cells that reach a specific area of the brain form the brain cell reception field.

In the visual system, convergence occurs because the receptive field of several photoreceptors reaches a retinal ganglion cell, and a group of ganglion cells reaches a brain cell to form its receptive field, so the information that retinal ganglion cell sends to the brain comes from many photoreceptors.

The other options are not correct because convergence:

     A. It does not depend on all the information seen in the visual field.

     C. It does not depend on the sum of the amount of light it receives.

     D. It does not imply the amount of action potentials.

    E. There are no connections with other ganglion cells.

1. How do traditional societies care for their elderly? How are their methods different from modern societies'?
sleet_krkn [62]

Answer:

Traditional societies insist that older people live near their life-long friends and family rather than sending them away to nursing homes and retirement facilities.

Explanation:

Traditional:

Older men and women in traditional societies remain a really important part of that society. They aren't sent to homes or retirement facilities, abandoned by their kids when they move out, and they help bringing their grandchildren up. They cook for the family, they teach their skills, they help with cleaning etc. There is a myth that women who are way past their menopause live that long because they are needed by their daughters to help them with their own kids.

Modern:

When it comes to modern society, there is one crucial thing -- they have modern medicine.

It's well-known in the human history that not many people have lived for long after they ended their physical activity, because pneumonia puts them down and carries them off.

Until that, the older person is a participating member of the household.

Modern medicine, antibiotics and other medical miracles make it possible for them to live a long life after an elder person can't take care of themselves independently. That's why nursing homes are very much needed.

People usually decide to put their parents in nursing homes because it's easier. They know that there is someone who will be at their disposal 24/7 and they won't have to worry whether they need an urgent medical attention or not. Also, they have more free time on their hands for their own lifestyle and families.
