A novice golfer on the green takes three strokes to sink the ball. The successive displacements of the ball are: - 4.0 m north -

2.0 m northeast - 1.0 m at 30◦ to the west of south starting at the same initial point, an expert golfer could make the hole in what single displacement?

its displacement is given in vector form as follows

\vec d_1= 4 \hat j

\vec d_2 = 2 cos45 \hat i + 2 sin45 \hat j

\vec d_2 = 1.41 \hat i + 1.41 \hat j

\vec d_3 = -1 sin30 \hat i - 1 cos30 \hat j

\vec d_3 = -0.5 \hat i - 0.866 \hat j

now the total displacement due to all three is given as

d = d_1 + d_2 + d_3

d = (1.41 - 0.5)\hat i + (4 + 1.41 -0.866)\hat j

d = 0.91 \hat i + 4.54 \hat j

so magnitude of displacement is

d = \sqrt{0.91^2 + 4.54^2} = 4.63 m

direction is given as

\theta = tan^{-1}\frac{4.54}{0.91}

\theta = 78.7 degree

<em>so the ball will be displaced by 4.63 m at angle 78.7 degree North of East</em>

guapka [62]

Answer:

a. Photogates placed at the beginning, end, and at various locations along the track that the car travels on.

b. A meterstick to measure the distance of the track that the car travels on.

Explanation:

Physics can be defined as the field or branch of science that typically deals with nature and properties of matter, motion and energy with respect to space, force and time.

In this scenario, a student is provided with a battery-powered toy car that the manufacturer claims will always operate at a constant speed. The student must design an experiment in order to test the validity of the claim.

Therefore, to test the validity of the claim, the student should use the following measuring tools;

a. Photogates placed at the beginning, end, and at various locations along the track that the car travels on. This device is typically used to measure time with respect to the rate of change of the interruption or block of an infra-red beam.

b. A meterstick to measure the distance of the track that the car travels on.

Hence, with these two devices the student can effectively measure or determine the validity of the claim.

A particle initially located at the origin has an acceleration of = 2.00ĵ m/s2 and an initial velocity of i = 8.00î m/s. Find (a
sergejj [24]

a. The particle has position vector

\vec r(t)=\left(\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)t\right)\,\vec\imath+\left(\dfrac12\left(2.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}\right)t^2\right)\,\vec\jmath

\vec r(t)=\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)t\,\vec\imath+\left(1.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}\right)t^2\,\vec\jmath

b. Its velocity vector is equal to the derivative of its position vector:

\vec v(t)=\vec r'(t)=\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)\,\vec\imath+\left(2.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}\right)t\,\vec\jmath

c. At t=7.00\,\mathrm s, the particle has position

\vec r(7.00\,\mathrm s)=\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)(7.00\,\mathrm s)\,\vec\imath+\left(1.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}\right)(7.00\,\mathrm s)^2\,\vec\jmath

\vec r(7.00\,\mathrm s)=\left(56.0\,\vec\imath+49.0\,\vec\jmath\right)\,\mathrm m

That is, it's 56.0 m to the right and 49.0 m up relative to the origin, a total distance of \|\vec r(7.00\,\mathrm s)\|=\sqrt{(56.0\,\mathrm m)^2+(49.0\,\mathrm m)^2}=74.4\,\mathrm m away from the origin in a direction of \theta=\tan^{-1}\dfrac{49.0\,\mathrm m}{56.0\,\mathrm m}=41.2^\circ relative to the positive x axis.

d. The speed of the particle at t=7.00\,\mathrm s is the magnitude of the velocity at this time:

\vec v(7.00\,\mathrm s)=\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)\,\vec\imath+\left(2.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}\right)(7.00\,\mathrm s)\,\vec\jmath

\vec v(7.00\,\mathrm s)=\left(8.00\,\vec\imath+14.0\,\vec\jmath\right)\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}

Then its speed at this time is

\|\vec v(7.00\,\mathrm s)\|=\sqrt{\left(8.00\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)^2+(14.0\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\right)^2}=16.1\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}

Susie rides down and to the right on a slide for a total displacement of -3m at an angle of 45 degrees above the ground. What wa
Svetlanka [38]

Susie's vertical displacement is 2.1 m

Explanation:

In order to solve this problem, we have to resolve the displacement vector along the vertical direction.

The vertical component of a vector is given by:

v_y = v sin \theta

where

v is the magnitude of the vector

\theta is the angle between the direction of the vector and the horizontal

Therefore, the vertical  component of the displacement in this problem is given by

d_y = d sin \theta

where

d = 3 m is the magnitude of the displacement

\theta=45^{\circ} is the angle between the  displacement and the horizontal

Substituting, we find

d_y = (3)(sin 45^{\circ})=2.1 m
