Explain the difference between perimeter and area. What do they measure? What types of units are they measured in?

Perimeter is the length around a 2D shape measured in inches. Area is the space within a 2D shaped measured in in^2. When I say 2D I mean something like a square or triangle not a cube or pyramid which are 3D objects!
