A glass tube is filled with hydrogen gas.  An electric current is passed through the tube, and the tube begins to glow a pinkish

/purple color (this is how fluorescent bulbs and neon signs produce light). If you were to pass this pink light through a prism to separate the individual light frequencies, you would see that this pink light is composed of four distinct colors: violet, green, blue, and red.  Notice the similarity between image (b) above and image (b) from question #3. Which is the best description of why this occurs?

Answer:

The electrons within the hydrogen atoms have gained energy from the current causing them to jump to higher orbitals. When they fall back to a lower energy orbital they release a single photon. These photons have discrete energies equal to the difference in energy of the two orbitals

Explanation:

The phenomenon described here is the photo electric effect.

When electricity is passed through the hydrogen gas an electron absorbs the energy of one photon and gains energy more than the work function of the hydrogen. Work function is the electron binding energy of a material. The above process causes the emission of an electron which is known as a photoelectron (photon).

Answer:

3.83×10⁻¹⁹ J

Explanation:

The energy of a photon can be found using the formula: E=hc/λ

  • h is Planck's Constant which is approximately 6.63×10⁻³⁴
  • c is the speed of light which we'll round to 3.00×10⁸
  • λ is the wavelength of the photon. You typed 5200 but that's not even within the visible light spectrum's wavelength range, so I'm going to assume you meant 520 nm; or 5.20×10⁻⁷ m.

Plugging all that info in should give approximately 3.83×10⁻¹⁹ Joules of energy.

(You could get slight variations depending on what you chose to round up or down or not at all.)

A car is stopped at a red light. When the light turns green, the car accelerates until it reaches a final velocity of 45 m/s. It
tigry1 [53]

Answer:

270 m

Explanation:

We can find the distance travelled by the car by using the following suvat equation:

s=(\frac{u+v}{2})t

where

s is the distance travelled

u is the initial velocity

v is the final velocity

t is the time

For the car in this problem,

u = 0

v = 45 m/s

t = 12 s

Substituting into the equation, we find:

s=(\frac{0+45}{2})(12)=270 m

A constant force of 8.0 N is exerted for 4.0 s on a 16-kg object initially at rest. The change in speed of this object will be:
AfilCa [17]

The change in speed of this object is 3m/s

According to Newton's second law;

F = ma

F = mv/t

Given the following parameters

Force F = 8.0N

mass m = 16kg

time t = 4.0s

Required

speed v

Substitute the given parameters into the formula

v = Ft/m

v = 8 * 6/16

v = 48/16

v = 3m/s

Hence the change in speed of this object is 3m/s

what is the energy required to melt down a 12,400g Gold bar assuming its temperature goes from 23c to 1,064c
sergejj [24]

1665183.6J

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of Gold = 12400g

Initial temperature = 23°C

Final temperature = 1064°C

Unknown:

Energy required to melt = ?

Solution:

The amount of heat required to cause this temperature change to heat the gold bar is given as;

   H    =   m  c Ф

 m is the mass of gold bar

  c is the specific heat capacity of gold

  Ф is the heat change

 Specific heat capacity of gold = 0.129J/g°C

  H = m c (Ф₂ - Ф₁)

 H = 12400 x 0.129 x (1064 - 23) = 1665183.6J
