3(6+b)=19

18+3b=19

3b=1

b=1/3

so then a+b= 1/3+6

1/3+6=

19/3 or 6 1/3

Hello!

In a really simple way, 3 times our answer is 19. We can just divide to find it.

19/3= 6 1/3

Anyway, it might be nice to solve the equation for b. If a=6, then b has to be 1/3, but let's check.

18+3b=19

3b=1

b=1/3

Therefore, a+b= 6 1/3

I hope this helps!

Find the values of y for which the distance between the point p2,-3 and q 10, y is 10 units
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

y = - 9, y = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

Calculate distance d using the distance formula

d = \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^2+(y_{2}-y_{1})^2    }

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (2, - 3) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (10, y)

d = \sqrt{(10-2)^2+(y+3)^2}

   = \sqrt{8^2+(y+3)^2}

Given distance between points is 10, then

\sqrt{64 +(y+3)^2} = 10 ( square both sides )

64 + (y + 3)² = 100 ( subtract 64 from both sides )

(y + 3)² = 36 ( take the square root of both sides )

y + 3 = ± \sqrt{36} = ± 6 ( subtract 3 from both sides )

y = - 3 ± 6 , thus

y = - 3 - 6 = - 9

y = - 3 + 6 = 3

The length of each side of the square is decreased by 2 inches, so the perimeter is now 48 inches . What was the original length
Jet001 [13]
X=original length of each side of the square.
perimeter: sum of all sides=4(length of the side)
The length of each side of the new square will be= (x-2)
we can suggest this equation:

4(x-2)=48

We solve this equation:
4(x-2)=48
4x-8=48
4x=48+8
4x=56
x=56/4
x=14

Answer: the original length of each side of the square would be 14 in.
