Hikers have noticed that a sealed bag of potato chips puffs up when taken to the top of a mountain. Suppose that at the valley f

loor below, the air pressure is 1.0 atm, temperature is 25°C, and the volume of the chip bag is 0.985 L. At the top of the mountain, the temperature is 22°C and the chip bag has puffed up to 1.030 L. What is the air pressure on top of the mountain? atm

<h3>Answer:</h3>

0.95 atm

<h3>Explanation:</h3>

We are given;

Initial pressure, P1 = 1.0 atm

Initial temperature, T1 =298 K (25°C + 273)

Initial volume, V1 = 0.985 L

Final temperature, T2 = 295 K (22°C + 273)

Final volume, V2 = 1.030 L

We are required to find final air pressure;

Using the combined gas law;

\frac{P1V1}{T1} =\frac{P2V2}{T2}

To get, P2 ;

P2=\frac{P1V1T2}{T1V2}

P2=\frac{(1.0)(0.985L)(295)}{(1.030)(298)}

P2 = 0.947 atm

        = 0.95 atm

Therefore, the air pressure at the top of the mountain is 0.95 atm

12. Chubchub runs a 440m lap in 1.2 minutes. How many laps will Chubchub
Svet_ta [14]

Answer:

the  number of laps in the case when he run for 50 minutes is 18,333.33

Explanation:

The computation of the number of laps in the case when he run for 50 minutes is shown below:

Given that

He runs 440m lap in 1.2 minutes

So in 50 minutes he can have laps of

= 440 × 50 ÷ 1.2

= 18,333.33 laps

hence, the  number of laps in the case when he run for 50 minutes is 18,333.33

The absorbance of an equilibrium mixture containing FeSCN2 was measured at 447 nm and found to be 0.347. What is the equilibrium
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

The concentration is C = 1.11 mol/L

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

     The absorbance is  A = 0.347

       The length is  l =  447 nm  =  447 *10^{-7} \ cm

Generally absorbance is mathematically represented as

        A =  \epsilon*  C * l

where \epsilon is the molar absorptivity of  FeSCN2  with a value \epsilon  =  7.0*10^3 L/cm/mol

 and  C is the equilibrium concentration of FeSCN2

So

       C = \frac{A}{\epsilon *  l  }

substituting values

        C = \frac{0.347}{7.0*10^{3} *  447 *10^{-7}  }

         C = 1.11 mol/L

What could you change or add to your models based on what you have learned about molecules and phases so far?
timurjin [86]

Answer:Phase changes require either the addition of heat energy (melting, evaporation, and sublimation) or subtraction of heat energy (condensation and freezing). ... Changing the amount of heat energy usually causes a temperature change.

Compare and contrast the functions of each of the following types of flasks: filter, Erlenmeyer, volumetric. (Site 2)
gogolik [260]

Filter flasks are also known as vacuum, suction or the Buchner flasks. They have thick walls and also have a short glass tube. The thick walls are designed to enable the filter withstand high pressures of vacuum applied to filter substances. Generally this is used for filtering.

While the Erlenmeyer flask also called as a conical flask, is a titration flask which consists of a conical body, a flat bottom, and round neck. This is used for used for general uses such as mixing, titrations, preparation of cultures, for recrystallization, and for supporting filter funnels.

<span>Lastly, the Volumetric flasks are graduated flasks which having markings for different volumes. They are calibrated accurately for a specific amount of liquid that can be contained in it hence this is specially used for storing precise amounts of liquid. </span>
