When a 2.75g sample of liquid octane (C8H18) is burned in a bomb calorimeter, the temperature of the calorimeter rises from 22.0
OLEGan [10]

Answer:

THE HEAT OF COMBUSTION IS 4995.69 kJ/mol OF OCTANE.

Explanation:

Heat capacity = 6.18 kJ/C

Temperature change = 41.5 C - 22.0 C = 19.5 C

Heat required to raise the temperature by 19.5 °C is:

Heat = heat capacity * temperature change

Heat = 6.18 kJ/ C * 19.5 C

heat = 120.51 kJ of heat

120.51 kJ of heat is required to raise the temperature of 2.75 g sample of  a liquid octane.

Molar mass of octane = ( 12* 8 + 1 * 18) = 114 g/mol

So therefore, the heat of the reaction per mole of octane will be:

120.51 kJ of heat is required for 2.75 g of octane

x J of heat will be required for 114 g of octane

x J = 120.51kJ * 114 / 2.75

x = 4995.69 kJ of heat per mole.

In conclusion, the heat of the combustion reaction in kJ / mole of octane is 4995.69 kJ/mol

What is the main use of Cellulosic Ethanol?
KonstantinChe [14]

Explanation:

Cellulosic ethanol is ethanol (ethyl alcohol) produced from cellulose (the stringy fiber of a plant) rather than from the plant's seeds or fruit. It can be produced from grasses, wood, algae, or other plants. It is generally discussed for use as a biofuel.

A sample of neon has a volume of 75.8 L at STP. Calculate the number of moles
stiv31 [10]

Answer:

3.38 moles of neon

Explanation:

First you have to multiply the volume (75.8 L) by the density to get the mass. Neon has a density of  0.9002 g/L at STP, we can just assume it's 0.9 g/L.

That leaves the mass at 68.22 g

Then, you divide the mass by the molar mass to get the number of moles. The molar mass of neon is 20.1797 u, we can leave it at 20.18

That leaves you at approximately 3.38 moles of neon

You evaporate all of the water from 100 mL of NaCl solution and obtain 11.3 grams of NaCl. What was the molarity of the NaCl sol
kicyunya [14]

Answer:

                      Molarity  =  1.93 mol.L⁻¹

Explanation:

             Molarity is the unit of concentration used to specify the amount of solute in given amount of solution. It is expressed as,

                         Molarity  =  Moles / Volume of Solution    ----- (1)

Data Given;

                  Mass  =  11.3 g

                  Volume  =  100 mL  =  0.10 L

First calculate Moles for given mass as,

                   Moles  =  Mass / M.mass

                   Moles  =  11.3 g / 58.44 g.mol⁻¹

                   Moles  =  0.1933 mol

Now, putting value of Moles and Volume in eq. 1,

                        Molarity  =  0.1933 mol ÷ 0.10 L

                        Molarity  =  1.93 mol.L⁻¹
