A 10 kg migratory swan cruises at 20 m/s. A calculation that takes into ac- count the necessary forces shows that this motion re

quires 200 W of mechanical power. If we assume an efficiency similar to humans (say, 25%), a reasonable assumption, then the metabolic power of the swan is significantly higher than this. The swan does not stop to eat during a long day of flying; it get the energy it needs from fat stores. Assuming an efficiency similar to humans, after 12 hours of flight, a. How far has the swan traveled? b. What fraction of its body mass does it lose? Assume that I g of fat contains 37 kJ of energy.

Answer:

total distance moved by the swan is

d = 864000 m

Fraction of total mass lost by it

fraction = 0.0934

Explanation:

As we know that swan cruises at 20 m/s speed

Part a)

Distance moved by the swan is product of speed and time

so we have

d = v t

d = 20 \times (12 \times 3600)

d = 864000 m

Part b)

As we know that power consumed by the swan is 200 W

so total energy consumed in 12 hours is given as

E = P \times t

E = 200(12 \times 3600)

E = 8.64 \times 10^6 J

Since we know that output power is 25% of total energy used so total energy consumed is given as

E_{net} = 3.456 \times 10^7 J

now we know that 1 g of fat is lost for 37 kJ energy

so total mass lost in this

m = \frac{3.456\times 10^7}{37 \times 10^3}

m = 934 g

so fraction of mass lost is given as

fraction = \frac{0.934}{10}

fraction = 0.0934

Two hockey pucks with mass 0.1 kg slide across the ice and collide. Before
RideAnS [48]

The velocity of pluck 1 is 12 m/s west.

What is the conservation of momentum?

The principle of the conservation of the linear momentum states that momentum before collision is equal to momentum after collision.

Now given that;

m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2

(0.1 * 15) - (0.1 * 12) = 0.1* v + (0.1 * 15)

1.5 - 1.2 = 0.1v + 1.5

0.3 - 1.5 = 0.1v

v = -1.2/0.1

v = - 12 m/s

Hence, the velocity of pluck 1 is 12 m/s west.

Explain a police role, and how important it is. also you can explain a mayor's role and how important it is...

A police's role in the community is to protect us and make sure that everyone is following the rules. it is important for a police to be there so we can be safe. Their status is fair enough. Another Example is a mayor. a mayor's job is to improve the city/ the community. His status is high. There are many people around us that help us, each with a different status.

Rank these temperatures from hottest to coldest: 32° F,32° C, and 32 K 320 F> 32° C>32 K 32°C 32° F 32 K 32° F 32 K 32° c
Leviafan [203]

Answer:

32 C > 32 F > 32 K

Explanation:

32 F, 32 C, 32 K

Let T1 = 32 F

T2 = 32 C

T3 = 32 K

Convert all the temperatures in degree C

The relation between F and C is given by

(F - 32) / 9 = C / 100

so, (32 - 32) / 9 = C / 100

C = 0

So, T1 = 32 F = 0 C

The relation between c and K is given by

C = K - 273 = 32 - 273 = - 241

So, T3 = 32 K = - 241 C

So, T 1 = 0 C, T2 = 32 c, T3 = - 241 C

Thus, T2 > T1 > T3

32C > 32 F > 32 K
