1:3:6 is equal to 10%, 30%, and 60%

1 (or 10%)=$4
3 (or 30%)=$12
6 (or 60%)=$24

first add the ratios,that is =10
Then find the amount the 1st person payed= 1/10 *40
=4
2nd person payed= 3/10*40=12
3rd person payed= 6/10*40=24
