(Serway 9th ed., 9-3) At one instant, a 17.5-kg sled is moving over a horizontal surface of snow at 3.50 m/s. After 8.75 sec has

elapsed, the sled stops. Use a momentum approach to find the average friction force acting on the sled while it was moving. (Ans. 7.00 N)

Answer:

F = 7 N

Explanation:

given,

mass of sled = 17.5 Kg

speed of snow on horizontal surface = 3.5 m/s

time taken to stop = 8.75 s

initial momentum

  = m U

= 17.5 x 3.5 = 61.25 Kg.m/s

final momentum

final velocity = 0 m/s

final momentum = 0

impulse = change in momentum

impulse = force x time

equating both the formula of impluse

F x t = 61.25 - 0

F x 8.75 = 61.25

F = 7 N

Force acting on the moving sled is equal to F = 7 N

What is the ph of a buffer solution that is 0.172 m in hclo and 0.131 m in naclo? hint: the ka of hclo is 3.8 x 10-8.
nata0808 [166]

The pH of the buffer solution is 7.30 for 0.172 m in Hypochlorous acid and 0.131 m in Sodium hypochlorite.

What is a buffer solution?

A weak acid and its conjugate base, or a weak base and its conjugate acid, are mixed together to form a solution called a buffer solution, which is based on water as the solvent. They do not change in pH when diluted or when modest amounts of acid or alkali are added to them. A relatively little amount of a strong acid or strong base has little effect on the pH of buffer solutions. As a result, they are employed to maintain a steady pH.

According to the question:

Ka = 3.8×10⁻⁸

pKa = - log (Ka)

= - log(3.8×10⁻⁸)

= 7.42

pH = pKa + log {[conjugate base]/[acid]}

= 7.42+ log {0.131/0.172}

= 7.302

Aliun [14]

Answer:

a) 73.2N

b) 66.6N

c) 20.28N

Explanation:

F= mg=7.5×9.8=73.5N

Force parallel to the plane Fp= 73.5sin25= 31.06N

b) Fv= 73.5 cos25= 66.6N

c) Ff= u×Fv= 0.312×66.6=20.28N

a) Normal ForceFn= F/(cos25) - Fp - Ff = ma

1.1F -31.06-20.28=7.5×3.82

1.1F -51.84=28.65

1.1F= 28.65+51.84

F= 80.49/1.1

F= 73.2N

Xelga [282]

Answer:

0.459 Tesla

Explanation:

Faraday's law:

Emf = -N\frac{\delta\phi}{\delta t}

Φ= NAB

V =   N Δ (BA) /Δt

the change in BA

was: BA = 0 because initially B was zero.

V=IR

   IR =   N B A /Δt

   q / Δt ×R   =      N B A / Δt

Or:    B =   q R / NA = 8.87 x 10^-3 × 45.0 / 1850×4.7 x 10^-4 =

          = 0.459 Tesla

Calculate the heat energy released when 17.7 g of liquid mercury at 25.00 °c is converted to solid mercury at its melting point.
maria [59]

Answer;

Q = 359.2-J

Explanation;

Given that;

Constants for mercury at 1 atm

Heat capacity of Hg(l) is 28.0 J/(mol*K)

melting point is 234.32 K

Enthalpy of fusion is 2.29 kJ/mol

17.7-g Hg / 200.6g/mol = 0.0882 mol Hg;

°C + 273 = 298 K;

2.29-kJ/mol = 2290-J/mol

Q = (m x ΔT x Cp) + (m x Hf)

Q = 0.0882-mol x (298 - 234.32) x 28.0-J/mol*K) + (0.0882-mol x 2290-J/mol)

Q = 157.26-J + 201.978-J

Q = 359.2-J

Q=359-J (3 sig fig allowed due to 17.7-g given in problem)

A car travels 98 miles in 1 hour and 45 minutes. what is the average speed?
Greeley [361]
Firstly let us get the time down to minutes from hours. Then the calculation will become easy.
1 hour and 45 minutes = (60 + 45) minutes
                                     = 105 minutes
So
The distance traveled by the car in 105 minutes = 98 miles
Then
The distance traveled by the car in 60 minutes = (98/105) * 60 miles
                                                                           = 5880/105 miles
                                                                           = 56 miles
So the average speed of the car as can be seen from the above deduction is 56 miles per hour.
