Review Conceptual Example 8 as background for this problem. A loudspeaker is generating sound in a room. At a certain point, the

sound waves coming directly from the speaker (without reflecting from the walls) create an intensity level of 75.0 dB. The waves reflected from the walls create, by themselves, an intensity level of 72.0 dB at the same point. What is the total intensity level?

Answer:

Level = 76.8 dB

Explanation:

Level of sound intensity is related to the intensity of sound by the following formula

L = 10 Log \frac{I}{I_0}

so from above formula we can find the intensity of sound for 75 dB

75.0 dB = 10 Log\frac{I_1}{10^{-12}}

I_1 = 3.16 \times 10^{-5} W/m^2

now for another sound level of 72.0 dB we have

72 = 10 Log\frac{I_2}{10^{-12}}

so we have

I_2 = 1.58 \times 10^{-5} W/m^2

now the total intensity due to both sounds

I = I_1 + I_2

I = 3.16 \times 10^{-5} + 1.58 \times 10^{-5}

I = 4.74 \times 10^{-5} W/m^2

Now the level of resultant sound is

L = 10 Log\frac{4.74 \times 10^{-5}}{10^{-12}}

L = 76.8 dB

Why is it important to use the correct number of significant digits when
Pani-rosa [81]

A. To show how precise your measurements were

Explanation:

It is important to use the correct number of significant digits when reporting the results of an experiment because they show how precise measurement are.

  • Precision is the ability to reproduce a particular set of results in an experiment.
  • Every instrument have their precision level.
  • The precision levels shows to what extent the values obtained can be trusted..
  • Significant figures are not only important in recording measurements, they are also needed for calculations in science.

I have an algerbra 2 question.
Andreyy89

In order to find out if the exponential function represents a growth or a decay, let's look at the number that is base to the exponent x.

If the number is greater than 1, so the function represents a growth, and if the number is less than 1, the function represents a decay.

Since the number is 1.075, the function represents a growth.

To find the % increase, first let's convert the number to percentage, and then subtract 100%:

\begin{gathered} 1.075=1.075\cdot100\text{\%}=107.5\text{\%} \\ 107.5\text{\%}-100\text{\%}=7.5\text{\%} \end{gathered}

So the percent increase is 7.5%.

If a spear is jabbeb exactly at that place where the fish appears in water, the fish is not killed
Korvikt [17]

You have learned your lesson well, Suhay. Your statement is correct.

The light rays from the fish BEND when they flow out of the water into the air. But our primitive brain still believes that the light rays flow STRAIGHT from the fish. The result is that the fish does not APPEAR to be at that place where it really is.

A blow-dryer and a vacuum cleaner each operate with a voltage of 120 V. The current rating of the blow-dryer is 10 A, and that o
Katyanochek1 [597]

Answer:

Part a)

P = 1200 Watt

Part b)

P = 480 W

Part c)

\frac{E_{bd}}{E_{vc}} = 5 : 2

Explanation:

Part a)

Power consumed by blow dryer is given as

P = iV

here supply voltage is given as

V = 120 volts

current rating of blow dryer is given as

i = 10 A

P = (120 V)(10 A)

P = 1200 W

Part b)

Power consumed by vacuum cleaner is given as

P = iV

here supply voltage is given as

V = 120 volts

current rating of vacuum cleaner is given as

i = 4 A

P = (120 V)(4 A)

P = 480 W

Part c)

Energy consumed in a given interval of time is given as

Energy = power \times time

now we have to find the ratio of energy consumed in time interval of 11 minutes

so we have

\frac{E_{bd}}{E_{vc}} = \frac{P_{bd} t}{P_{vc} t}

now we have

\frac{E_{bd}}{E_{vc}} = \frac{1200 W\times 11 min}{480 W \times 11 min}

\frac{E_{bd}}{E_{vc}} = 5 : 2
