A Simply supported wood beam with overhang is subjected to uniformly distributed load q. The beam has a rectangular cross sectio

n with width b= 200 mm and depth h= 250 mm. Determine the maximum permissible value of load intensity q if the allowable bending stress is σ= 14 MPa and the allowable shear stress τa=1.8MPa.

Answer:

q = 61.71 KN/m

Explanation:

We know that shear force at one end of the beam is;

F = wl/2

Where;

w is the uniformly distributed load and l is the span.

Thus, in this question, q is the distributed load, so;

F = ql/2

Area of beam section = breadth x depth

In this case,

Area = 200 × 250 = 50000 mm²

We are given allowable shear stress of τa=1.8MPa. This can also be written as τa = 1.8 N/mm²

We know that formula for average shear stress is;

τ_avg = Force/Area

Thus, Force = τ_avg x Area

However, we are given maximum allowable shear stress as 1.8and we know that; τ_max = 1.5 × τ_avg

Thus, τ_avg = 1.8/1.5 = 1.2

Hence;

Force = 1.2 × 50,000 = 60000 N

We need

So from the earlier equation F = ql/2,we can get; 60000 = ql/2

ql = 120000 - - - - - (1)

Now, to the bending stress, we know that section modulus of a rectangular section is;

Z = bd²/6

So,for this question, we have;

Z = (200 × 250²)/6

Z = 2083333.33 mm²

Maximum bending moment of a simply supported beam is wl²/8

So,in this case, M = ql²/8

So,formula for maximum bending stress = M/Z

So, plugging in the values, we have ;

σ_max = (ql²/8) / 2083333.33

We are given σ= 14 MPa or 14 N/mm²

Thus;

14 = (ql²/8) / 2083333.33

ql² = 14 × 2083333.33 × 8

ql² = 233333332.96 - - - eq(2)

From equation 1,we saw that;ql = 120000.

Putting this for ql in equation 2,we will get;

120000l = 233333332.96

l = 233333332.96/120000

l = 1944.44 mm

So from eq 1,q = 120000/l

q = 120000/1944.44

q = 61.71 KN/m

A segment of a roadway has a free flow speed of 45 mph and a jam density of 25 ft per vehicle. Determine the maximum flow and at
-BARSIC- [3]

Answer:

2376 vph

Explanation:

Given data

free flow speed ( Vf ) = 45 mph

Jam density = 25 ft per vehicle

flow rate = 1950 vph

first we calculate the Jam density in vehicle /mile

= 5280 / 25 = 211.2 vehicle/mile

where ; 1 mile = 5280 feet

The maximum flow can be calculated using Greenshield method

q = ( Vf * jam density ) / 4  =  ( 45 * 211.2 ) / 4

  = 2376 vph

What is 100 kPa in psia?
Korolek [52]

Answer:

The pressure in pounds per square inch (psi) equals 14.50 psi.

Explanation:

Since psi stands for 'pounds per square inch' and Pascals stands for 'Newtons per square meters'

We can write the given pressure as

Pressure=100kPa\\\\Pressure=100\times 10^{3}N/m^{2}

Now since 1 Newton of force equals 0.22481 Pound force also

since 1 meter equals 39.37 inches

Using the above values we get

Pressure=100\times 10^{3}\times \frac{0.22481lb}{(39.37)^{2}inch^{2}}

thus the pressure becomes

Pressure=100\times 10^{3}\times \frac{0.22481}{(39.31)^{2}}pounds/inch^{2}\\\\Pressure=14.50psi

A solid cylinder of diameter 100 mm and height 50 mm is forged between two frictionless flat dies to a height of 25 mm. What is
coldgirl [10]

Answer:

d. 41.4

Explanation:

The initial diameter di = 100mm

The initial height hi {✓59m

Final height = 25 m

Final diameter = ?

Initial volume = after forging volume

D*(di)²*hi = D *(df)²*hf

D will cancel out from either sides of the equation

100² x 50 = df²x25

10000x2 = df²

20000 = df²

df = √20000

df = 141.42mm

Change in diameter = 141.42-100

= 41.42

The percentage change = 41.42/100*100

= 41.4%

The last option is the answer

Talja [164]

Answer: information security managers

Explanation:

Information security managers is an individual in charge of making sure that company's or organization's equipments such as computers, network, data etc are protected against security breach, computer viruses, hackers, etc. The person also keep assets in confidentiality, integrity, and makes them available when needed. Failure to do this might lead to the loss of confidential data, security breach, cyber crimes, etc which will cause a serious set back in a company's operations especially in the information and technology department, it might also lead to fine sanctions from regulatory body for the failure to protect data, it will also lead to financial loss,etc.
