This question is incomplete, the complete question is;

The flask contains 10.0mL of HCl and a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator.

The buret contains 0.320 M NaOH,

It requires 11.2 mL of the NaOH solution to reach the end point of the titration

What is the initial concentration of HCI?

Answer:

initial concentration of HCl is 0.3584 M

Explanation:

Given that;

the reaction between HCl and NaOH is 1:1 molar

HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) -------> NaCl(aq) + H2O(l)

we know that molarity is the number of moles of solute per liter of solution

so moles of NaOH consumed

= ( 0.320 mol / 1000ml) × 11.2ml

= 0.003584 mol

now

0.003584 moles of NaOH reacts with 0.003584 moles of HCl

moles of HCl present in the 10.0ml solution = 0.003584 mol

therefore the initial concentration of HCl

= ( 0.003584 mol / 10.0ml )× 1000ml

= 0.3584 M

the initial concentration of HCl is 0.3584 M

What is the empirical formula for a compound that is 83.7% carbon and 16.3% hydrogen?
zubka84 [21]
Hello!

We use the amount in grams (mass ratio) based on the composition of the elements, see: (in 100 g solution)

C: 83.7% = 83,7 g
H: 16.3% = 16.3 g

Let us use the above mentioned data (in g) and values will be converted to amount of substance (number of moles) by dividing by molecular mass (g / mol) each of the values, lets see:

C:  \dfrac{83.7\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g}{12\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g/mol} \approx 6.975\:mol

H: \dfrac{16.3\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g}{1\:\diagup\!\!\!\!\!g/mol} = 16.3\:mol

We note that the values found above are not integers, so let's divide these values by the smallest of them, so that the proportion is not changed, let's see:

C:  \dfrac{6.975}{6.975} = 1

H:  \dfrac{16.3}{6.975} \approx 2.3

Note: So the ratio in the smallest whole numbers of carbon to hydrogen is 3:7, t<span>hus, the minimum or empirical formula found for the compound will be:

\boxed{\boxed{C_3H_7}}\end{array}}\qquad\checkmark

I hope this helps. =)

How does convection occur in the troposhere
adell [148]

Answer:The surface heated air expands as it warms, becomes less dense than surrounding cooler air and rises as buoyant and turbulent bubbles. This is convection and is the main process by which the troposphere mixes and heats. Although convection stirs and mixes the troposphere, the higher it is the colder it becomes.

What would happen if you didn't add enough hcl after the celite filtration?
Allisa [31]
In celite filtration, diatomaceous earth is used to filter a solution containing very small particles that may pass through an ordinary filter. Hydrochloric acid is added after the celite filtration to remove the remaining particles in the filtration set-up. If the amount of acid added is not enough, it may cause discrepancies in the results.
