A cable with a linear density of \mu=0.109~\text{kg/m}μ=0.109 kg/m is hung from telephone poles. The tension in the cable is 572

N. The distance between poles is 19.9 meters. The wind blows across the line, causing the cable resonate. A standing waves pattern is produced that has 4.5 wavelengths between the two poles. Assuming room temperature air, what is the frequency of the hum?

Answer:

f=16.46 Hz

Explanation:

The equation of the speed of a mechanical wave in terms of the tension and linear density, of the cable in our case, is given by:

v=\sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}}

Where:

  • T is the tension of the cable (T = 572 N)
  • μ is the linear density of the cable (μ = 0.109 kg/m)

And we know that v = λ*f

  • λ is the wavelength
  • f is the frequency

Because a standing waves pattern is produced that has 4.5 wavelengths between the two poles and the distance between poles is 19.9 meters, the value of the wavelength is: λ = 19.9/4.5 = 4.4 m.

Therefore, the frequency will be:

\lambda f=\sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}}

f=\frac{1}{\lambda}\sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}}

f=\frac{1}{4.4}\sqrt{\frac{572}{0.109}}

f=16.46 Hz

I hope it helps you!

the illuminance on a surface is 6 lux and the surface is 4 meters from the light source. What is the intensity of the saurce?
Lelechka [254]
L = illuminance
A = surface
i = intensity

L = i / A ==: i = L * A

i = 6 lux * 4 m^2 = 24 lumen

Which elements will bond ionically with barium such that the formula would be written as BaX2? A) Nitrogen, chlorine, and sodium
erma4kov [3.2K]

The answer would be:

B. Chlorine, iodine and Fluorine

Barium has 2 valence electrons. To satisfy the BaX₂ , this would mean that Barium will need to give one of each of its electrons. The elements that need 1 electron would be those that have 7 valence electrons to complete the octet. These elements would fall in group 7 or halogens. Chlorine, iodine and fluorine are all in Group 7, so this would be the best choice.

Unlike most real bulbs, the resistances of the bulbs in the questions below do not change as the current through them changes. A
Shkiper50 [21]

Answer:

Option 1 is correct.

The current passing through the brighter bulb is larger.

Explanation:

The brightness of the bulb is determined by the power, I²R

And since they all have equal resistances, the only factor different that could result in more or less power is the current, I through the bulb.

What is the internal energy of 2.00 mol of diatomic hydrogen gas (H2) at 35°C?
djyliett [7]
As you mentioned, we will use <span>Equipartition Theorem.
</span><span>H2 has 5 degrees of freedom; 3 translations and 2 rotation
</span>Therefore:
Internal energy = (5/2) nRT
You just substitute in the equation with the values of R and T and calculate the internal energy as follows:
Internal energy = (5/2) x 2 x <span>8.314 x 308 = 32.0089 x 10^3 J</span>
