Although Rutherford is credited with the famous gold foil scattering experiment, he didn’t actually conduct this experiment hims

elf. It was done by two of his assistants, Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden. Do you think it was fair to name the experiment after Rutherford while ignoring the other two scientists? Why or why not? Give credible arguments for your answer

Although he did not do the experiment himself, he had come up with the idea of what to do and how to do it. I think that only Rutherford receiving credit is okay as the assistants did not do anything to contribute to the actual idea of the experiment.
For example, we credit the invention of the iPhone to Steve Jobs, the engineers of Apple, the designers, etc. - those with actual contributions to the invention and the ideas and not the Chinese factory workers - those who construct the iPhone itself.

A 0.100 M solution of K2SO4 would contain the same total ion concentration as which of the following solutions?0.0800 M Na2CO3 0
AysviL [449]

Answer:

  • <em><u>The third chice: 0.0750 M Na₂SO₄</u></em>

Explanation:

Assume 100% ionization:

<em><u>1) 0.100 M solution K₂SO₄</u></em>

  • K₂SO4 (aq) → 2K⁺ (aq) + SO₄²⁻ (aq)

  • Mole ratios: 1 mol K₂SO4 : 2 mol K⁺  + 1 mol SO₄²⁻ (aq) : 3 mol ions. This is 1 : 3

  • At constant volume, the mole ratios are equal to the concentration ratios (M).

  • 1  M K₂SO₄: 3 M ions = 0.100 M K₂SO₄ / x ⇒ x = 0.300 M ions

This means, that you have to find which of the choices is a solution that contains the same 0.300 M ion concentration.

<u>2) 0.0800 M Na₂CO₃</u>

  • Na₂CO₃ (aq) → 2 Na⁺ + CO₃⁻

  • 1 M Na₂CO₃ / 3 M ions = 0.0800M / x ⇒ x = 0.0267 M ions

This is not equal to 0.300 M, so this solution would not contain the same total concentration as a 0.100 M solution of K₂SO₄, and is not the right answer.

<u>3)  0.100 M NaCl </u>

  • NaCl → Na⁺ + Cl⁻

  • 1 M NaCl / 2 M ions = 0.100 M NaCl / x ⇒ x = 0.200 M ions

This is not equal to 0.300 M ion, so not a correct option.

<u>4) 0.0750 M Na₃PO₄</u>

  • Na₃PO₄ → 3Na⁺ + PO₄³⁻

  • 1 M Na₃PO₄ / 4 M ions = 0.0750 M Na₃PO₄ / x ⇒ x = 0.300 M ions

Hence, this ion concentration is equal to the ion concentration of a 0.100 M solution of K₂SO₄, and is the correct choice.

<u>5)  0.0500 M NaOH </u>

  • NaOH → Na⁺ + OH⁻

  • 1 M NaOH / 2 mol ions = 0.0500 M NaOH / x ⇒ x = 0.100 M ions

Not equal to 0.300 M, so wrong choice.

2Fe + 6HCl -&gt; 2FeCl3 + 3H2 If 7.0 moles of HCl is added to enough iron that the HCl is completely used up, how many
DENIUS [597]

Answer: 3.5 moles of hydrogen gas will be produced.

Explanation:

The balanced chemical equation is:

2Fe+6HCl\rightarrow 2FeCl_3+3H_2

As HCl gets completely used up, HCl is the limiting reagent.

According to stoichiometry :

6 moles of HCl produces =  3 moles of H_2

Thus 7.0 moles of  HCl produces=\frac{3}{6}\times 7.0=3.5moles  of H_2

 Thus 3.5 moles of hydrogen gas will be produced.

The intersection angle of a 3 degree curve is 45.2 degrees. What is the length of the curve? of Select one: O a. 455 m O b.573 m
ValentinkaMS [17]

Explanation:

Relation between length of a curve and angle is as follows.

               l = R \times \Theta

where,   R = radius of curve

         \Theta = angle in radians

Also,     l = R \times \Theta \times \frac{\pi}{180}  .......... (1)

If curve has a degree of curvature D_{a} for standard length s, then

               R = \frac{s}{D_{a}} \times \frac{180}{\pi}   ........... (2)

Now, substitute the value of R from equation (2) into equation (1) as follows.

               l = \frac{s \times \Theta}{D_{a}}

If s = 30 m, then calculate the value of l as follows.

                 l = \frac{s \times \Theta}{D_{a}}

                   = 30 \times \frac{45.2}{3}

                   = 452 m

thus, we can conclude that the length of the curve is 452 m.
