You buy a light bulb in the U.S. labeled 75 watts. Since you bought it in the U.S., the power rating assumes that the potential

difference across the light bulb will be 120 volts. Instead, you provide it with a potential difference of 220 volts (the potential difference provided by wall outlets in most European countries). Will the light bulb dissipate 75 watts of power?

Answer:

    P₂ = 252 W

Explanation:

The electrical power is

          P = V I

The potential difference is

         V = I R

         I = V / R

Let's replace

        P = V² / R

Let's use the given values to calculate the resistance of the bulb

         R = V² / P

         R = 120²/75

         R = 192 ohm

This resistance value does not depend on the applied voltage, so it is constant

Let's calculate the power in Europe

        P₂ = V₂² / R

       P₂ = 220²/192

       P₂ = 252 W

the bulb dissipates much more power

Answer:

The light bulb will not dissipate 75 Watts of power when provided with 220 volts

Explanation:

The resistance of the bulb does not change

Let P = Power

V = Voltage

R = Resistance

P = V²/R

When Power = 75 Watts and Voltage = 120 volts

75 = (120)²/R

R = (120)²/75

R = 192 ohms

Since the resistance of the bulb is constant

When V = 220 volts

P = V²/R

P = 220²/192

P = 252.08 W

Ball A Mass: 0.45 kg Velocity: 50 m/s Ball B Mass: 0.45 kg Velocity: 80 m/s Ball C Mass: 0.45 kg Velocity: 25 m/s Which ball has
charle [14.2K]
Definition formula for momentum: P = mv

So P(A) = 0.45 * 50 = 22.5 kgm/s

P(B) = 0.45 * 80 = 36 kgm/s

P(C) = 0.45 * 25 = 11.25 kgm/s

B has the greatest momentum

g determine what frequency is required of a source powering a 100 uf capacitor a 500 ohm resistor and a s50 mH inductor in serie
polet [3.4K]

Answer: 71.16\ Hz

Explanation:

Given

Capacitance C=100\ \mu F

Resistance R=500\ \Omega

Inductance L=50\ mH

In LCR circuit, current is maximum at resonance frequency i.e.

X_L=X_C\ \text{and}\ \omega_o=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{LC}}

Insert the values

\Rightarrow \omega_o=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{50\times 10^{-3}\times 100\times 10^{-6}}}\\\\\Rightarrow \omega_o=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{5}\times 10^{-3}}\\\\\Rightarrow \omega_o=0.447\times 10^{3}

Also, frequency is given by

\Rightarrow 2\pi f=\omega_o\\\\\Rightarrow f=\frac{\omega_o}{2\pi}

\Rightarrow f=\dfrac{1}{2\pi}\times 0.447\times 10^3\\\\\Rightarrow f=71.16\ Hz

In which wavelength region(s) would we need to carry out observations in order to study the accretion disk around a white dwarf
Inga [223]

In “Ultraviolet light” and “X-ray” light wavelength regions are needed to carry out observations to study the “accretion disk” around “a white dwarf” in a “binary system”.

<u>Explanation</u>:

Occurrence of an accretion disk is due to presence of diffuse material around a white dwarf in orbital motion. White dwarf is constituted from electron-degenerate matter therefore also called as degenerate dwarf in binary system. Frictional forces and gravitational forces are responsible to compress and high “temperature” of the material, results with emission of “electromagnetic radiation”. “Accretion disks” of white dwarf radiate in the UV-rays and X-rays wavelength region of spectrum.
