We have to assume that the truck was not moving
before he started pushing it.

After he did 12 J of work pushing it, the truck had
12 J of kinetic energy.

                                         Kinetic energy = (1/2) (mass) (speed²)

                                                12 J              =  (1/2) (3 kg) (speed²)

Divide each side by 1.5 kg :  12J / 1.5 kg = speed²

1 J = 1 newton-meter           (12 kg-m²/sec²) / (1.5 kg) = speed²
      =  1 kg-m² / sec²
                                               (12 / 1.5) ( m²/sec²)  =  speed²

                                               Speed = √(8 m²/s²)

                                               Speed  =   2.83 m/s .

We can't say anything about velocity, because we don't know
anything about the direction in which the truck is moving.

A uniform beam resting on two pivots has a length L = 6.00 m and weight M = 220 lbs. The pivot under the left end exerts a norma
gulaghasi [49]

Answer:

x = 4,138 m

Explanation:

For this exercise, let's use the rotational equilibrium equation.

Let's fix our frame of reference on the left side of the pivot, the positive direction for anti-clockwise rotation

         ∑ τ = 0

         n₁ 0 - W L / 2 + n₂ 4 - W_woman  x = 0

         x = (- W L / 2 + 4n2) / W_woman

Let's reduce the magnitudes to the SI System

         M = 6 lbs (1 kg / 2.2 lb) = 2.72 kg

         M_woman = 130 lbs = 59.09 kg

Let's write the transnational equilibrium equation

         n₁ + n₂ - W - W_woman = 0

         n₁ + n₂ = W + W_woman

        n₁ + n₂ = (2.72 + 59.09) 9.8

At the point where the system begins to rotate, pivot 1 has no force on it, so its relation must be zero (n₁ = 0)

          n₂ = 605,738 N

Let's calculate

         x = (-2.72 9.8 6/2 + 4 605.738) / 59.09 9.8

         x = 4,138 m

A 1.4-kg cart is attached to a horizontal spring for which the spring constant is 50 N/m . The system is set in motion when the
marin [14]

Answer:

A)

0.395 m

B)

2.4 m/s

Explanation:

A)

m = mass of the cart = 1.4 kg

k = spring constant of the spring = 50 Nm⁻¹

x = initial position of spring from equilibrium position = 0.21 m

v_{i} = initial speed of the cart = 2.0 ms⁻¹

A = amplitude of the oscillation = ?

Using conservation of energy

Final spring energy = initial kinetic energy + initial spring energy

(0.5) kA^{2} = (0.5) m v_{i}^{2} + (0.5) k x_{i}^{2} \\kA^{2} = m v_{i}^{2} + k x_{i}^{2} \\(50) A^{2} = (1.4) (2.0)^{2} + (50) (0.21)^{2} \\A = 0.395 m

B)

m = mass of the cart = 1.4 kg

k = spring constant of the spring = 50 Nm⁻¹

A = amplitude of the oscillation = 0.395 m

v_{o} = maximum speed at the equilibrium position

Using conservation of energy

Kinetic energy at equilibrium position = maximum spring potential energy at extreme stretch of the spring

(0.5) m v_{o}^{2} = (0.5) kA^{2}\\m v_{o}^{2} = kA^{2}\\(1.4) v_{o}^{2} = (50) (0.395)^{2}\\v_{o} = 2.4 ms^{-1}

If the archerfish spits its water 30 degrees from the horizontal aiming at an insect 1.2 m above the surface of the water, how f
Burka [1]

Answer:

The speed is  v =  9.8 \ m/s

Explanation:

From the question w are told that

    The angle  made is \theta  =  30^o

     The distance  above the surface of the water is  h_{max} = 1.2 \ m

     The  value of  g = 10 \  m/s^2

The maximum height attained by the fish is mathematically evaluate as

       h_{max} =  \frac{v^2 sin ^2 \theta }{2g }

Making v which is the speed of the fish the subject of the formula

      v =  \sqrt{ \frac{2gh_{max}}{ sin^2 \theta } }

  substituting values

     v =  \sqrt{ \frac{2*10 *1.2 }{ [sin (30)]^2  } }

     v =  9.8 \ m/s
