Three identical boxcars are coupled together and are moving at a constant speed of 28.0 on a level, frictionless track. They col

lide with another identical boxcar that is initially at rest and couple to it, so that the four cars roll on as a unit. Friction is small enough to be neglected.Part AWhat is the speed of the four cars?Part BWhat percentage of the kinetic energy of the boxcars is dissipated in the collision?Part CWhat happened to this energy?

Answer:

Explanation:

Let m be the mass of each car

mass of three cars = 3m

Kinetic energy of 3 coupled cars = 1/2 x 3m x 28²

= 1176 m

mass of 4 coupled cars = 4m

Its velocity v = 3m x 28 / 4m ( using conservation of momentum law )

= 21 m /s

Kinetic energy of 4m mass

= 1/2 x 4m x 21²

= 882 m

Loss of energy

= 1176 m - 882 m = 294 m

percentage of loss

=( 294 / 1176 ) x 100

= 25 %

This energy appears in the form of sound , heat etc on collision .

A(n) ____________________ valve operates similarly to a direct-acting sequence valve except that it has an external pilot line t
katrin [286]

Answer:

A remote controlled (<em>or externally piloted) </em>sequence valve

Explanation:

First of all, a sequence valve  is a pressure-operated valve that opens at an adjustable set pressure.

Sequence valves can be internally piloted or externally piloted.

  • Internally piloted sequence valves are known as direct-acting sequence valve. This means that the pressure change they sense is from their main inlet valve.
  • Externally piloted sequence valves have a pilot line in which the pilot signal to open the valve is from a source other than the line feeding it.

External pilot-operated sequence valves can be used to open and allow flow when a remote operation reaches a certain predetermined pressure.

Calculate the ratio of the kinetic energy of an electron to that of a proton if their wavelengths are equal. Assume that the spe
goblinko [34]

Answer:

the ratio of the kinetic energy of an electron to that of a proton if their wavelengths are equal is 1835.16 .

Explanation:

We know, wavelength is expressed in terms of Kinetic Energy by :

\lambda=\dfrac{h}{\sqrt{2mE}}

Therefore , E=\dfrac{h^2}{2 \lambda^2 m}

It is given that both electron and proton have same wavelength.

Therefore,

E_e=\dfrac{h^2}{2 \lambda^2 m_e}   .... equation 1.

E_p=\dfrac{h^2}{2 \lambda^2 m_p}   .... equation 2.

Now, dividing equation 1 by 2 .

We get ,

\dfrac{E_e}{E_p}=\dfrac{\dfrac{h^2}{2 \lambda^2 m_e}}{\dfrac{h^2}{2 \lambda^2 m_p}}\\\\\\\dfrac{E_e}{E_p}=\dfrac{m_p}{m_e}

Putting value of mass of electron = 9.1\times 10^{-31}\ kg and mass of proton = 1.67\times 10^{-27}\ kg.

We get :

\dfrac{E_e}{E_p}=\dfrac{1.67\times 10^{-27}\ kg}{9.1\times 10^{-31}\ kg}=1835.16

Hence , this is the required solution.

When you lift a book from the ground to your desk, what kind of work do you do negative or positive by lifting the book what do
skelet666 [1.2K]
It would be kinetic energy. Let's say the book is weighs 10 Newtons you need to use a force of 10 Newtons to lift the book. In other words it's positive. As you move the book you're giving it energy. Namely potential energy which will turn to kinetic energy if you let it go. So you're changing it's position and energy.
