penicillin. an important antibiotic (antibacterial agent), was discovered accidentally by the scottish bacteriologist alexander

fleming in 1928, although he was never able to isolate it as a pure compound. this and similar antibiotics have saved millions of lives that would otherwise have been lost to infections. penicillin, like many of the molecules produced by living systems, is a large molecule containing many atoms. one type of penicillin, penicillin f, has the formula c14h20n2so4. Compute the mass percent of each element in this compound.

Answer:

mass percent of carbon = 57.78 %

mass percent of hydrogen = 6.40 %

mass percent of nitrogen = 8.96 %

mass percent of oxygen = 20.49 %

mass percent of sulfur = 10.24 %

Explanation:

Given data

Molecular formula = C₁₄H₂₀N₂O₄S

molecular mass (total mass) = 312.39 g/mol

Percentage of carbon = ?

Percentage of hydrogen = ?

Percentage of oxygen = ?

Percentage of nitrogen = ?

Percentage of sulfur = ?

Solution

1st we find out number of moles of each element from the molecular formula

Number of moles of carbon = 14 mol

Number of moles of hydrogen = 20 mol

Number of moles of nitrogen = 2 mol

Number of moles of oxygen = 4 mol

Number of moles of sulfur = 1 mol

Now we find out the mass of each element

as we know that

mass = number of moles × molecular mass

mass of carbon = 14 mol × 12 g/mol

mass of carbon = 168 g

mass of hydrogen = 20 mol × 1 g/mol

mass of hydrogen = 20 g

mass of nitrogen = 2 mol × 14 g/mol

mass of nitrogen = 28 g

mass of oxygen = 4 mol × 16 g/mol

mass of oxygen = 64 g

mass of sulfur = 1 mol × 32 g/mol

mass of sulfur = 32 g

now we find out the mass percent of each element

         mass percent = ( mass ÷ total mass ) × 100

mass percent of carbon = ( 168 g ÷ 312.39 g/mol ) × 100

mass percent of carbon = 57.78 %

mass percent of hydrogen = ( 20 g ÷ 312.39 g/mol ) × 100

mass percent of hydrogen = 6.40 %

mass percent of nitrogen = ( 28 g ÷ 312.39 g/mol ) × 100

mass percent of nitrogen = 8.96 %

mass of oxygen =( 64 g ÷ 312.39 g/mol ) × 100

mass percent of oxygen = 20.49 %

mass percent of sulfur = ( 32 g ÷ 312.39 g/mol ) × 100

mass percent of sulfur = 10.24 %

maw [93]

Answer:

final pressure ( P2) = 467.37 mm Hg

Explanation:

ideal gas:

  • PV = nRT

∴ P1 = 570 mm Hg * ( atm / 760 mm Hg ) = 0.75 atm

∴ T1 = 25 ° C = 298 K

∴ V1 = 1.250 L

∴ R = 0.082 atm L / K mol

⇒ n = P1*V1 / R*T1

⇒ n = (( 0.75 ) * ( 1.25 )) / (( 0.082 ) * ( 298 ))

⇒ n = 0.038 mol gas

∴ T2 = 175 °C ( 448 K )

∴ V2 = 2.270 L

⇒ P2 = nRT2 / V2

⇒ P2 = (( 0.038 ) * ( 0.082 ) * ( 448 )) / 2.270

⇒ P2 = 0.615 atm * ( 760 mm Hg / atm ) = 467.37 mm Hg

think about the statement "there is no new water on earth" write at least 5 sentences describing how there can be no new water o
Vinil7 [7]
Earth contains huge quantities of water in its oceans, lakes, rivers, the atmosphere, and believe it or not, in the rocks of the inner Earth. Over millions of years, much of this water is recycled between the inner Earth, the oceans and rivers, and the atmosphere. This cycling process means that freshwater is constantly made available to Earth's surface where we all live. Our planet is also very efficient at keeping this water. Water, as a vapor in our atmosphere, could potentially escape into space from Earth. But the water doesn't escape because certain regions of the atmosphere are extremely cold. (At an altitude of 15 kilometers, for example, the temperature of the atmosphere is as low as -60° Celsius!) At this frigid temperature, water forms solid crystals that fall back to Earth's surface.
Many people live faraway from freshwater sources. They need to carry their water home.
While our planet as a whole may never run out of water, it's important to remember that clean freshwater is not always available where and when humans need it. In fact, half of the world's freshwater can be found in only six countries. More than a billion people live without enough safe, clean water.
Also, every drop of water that we use continues through the water cycle. Stuff we put down the drain ends up in someone or something else's water. We can help protect the quality of our planet's freshwater by using it more wisely.

Describe the benefits and the drawback of natural gas.
Finger [1]

When looking to power your equipment or vehicle with natural gas, the first question that springs to mind is: what is natural gas? A lot of people use natural gas in their homes for cooking and heating, but they don’t really give it some thought. So, let’s see what natural gas is and how it’s different from other forms of fossil fuels like oil and coal.

Natural Gas is a fossil fuel that exist in a gaseous state and is composed mainly of methane (CH4) a small percentage of other hydrocarbons (e.g. ethane). The use of natural gas is becoming more and more popular as it can be used with commercial, industrial, electric power generation and residential applications.
