Complete Question

One arm of a U-shaped tube (open at both ends) contains water, and the other alcohol.

If the two fluids meet at exactly the bottom of the U, and the alcohol is at a height of 18 cm, at what height will the water be?Assume the density of alcohol is \rho_a = 790\ kg/m^3

Answer:

The  height of water is  h_w  =  0.142 \ m

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

    The height of the alcohol is  h_a  =18 \ cm  =  0.18 \ m

     The  density of the alcohol is  \rho_a = 790\ kg/m^3

Generally the pressure on both arm of the tube are equal given that they are both open

i,e    P_a  =  P_w

Where  P_a is pressure of alcohol and  P_w is pressure of water

   So the pressure on the arm of the tube containing the alcohol is mathematically evaluated as

         P_a  =  g  *  h  *  \rho

substituting values

         P_a  =9.8  *  0.18 *  790

         P_a  = 1394 \ Pa

Generally the pressure on the arm of the tube containing the water is mathematically evaluated as

       P_w  =  g *   h_w   *  \rho_w

where  \rho_w is the density of water which has  a value \rho _w  =  1000 \ kg/m^3

So

      1394 = 9.8  *  h_w  *  1000

=>    h_w  =  \frac{1394}{9800}

=>  h_w  =  0.142 \ m

You may jump higher because the more the mass of the planet, the more gravitational force. There is less mass(and gravity) on Callisto so you wouldn’t be weighed down as much and can jump higher. Whereas on Jupiter there is more weight holding you down.

If an electric current of 8.50 A flows for 3.75 hours through an electrolytic cell containing copper-sulfate (CuSO4) solution, t
muminat

Answer:

75.5g

Explanation:

From the ionic equation, we can write

CU^{2+}+SO^{2-}_{4}\\

next we find the number of charge

Note Q=it

for i=8.5A, t=3.75 to secs 3.75*60*60=13500secs

hence

Q=8.5*13500\\Q=114750C

Since one faraday represent one mole of electron which equal 96500C

Hence the number of mole produced by 114750C is

114750/96500=1.2mol

The mass of copper produced is

mol=\frac{mass}{molar mass} \\mass=mole*molar mass\\mass=1.2*63.5\\mass=75.5g

Hence the amount of copper produced is 75.5g

"A thin film with an index of refraction of 1.50 is placed in one of the beams of a Michelson interferometer. If this causes a s
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

The film thickness is 4.32 * 10^-6 m

Explanation:

Here in this question, we are interested in calculating the thickness of the film.

Mathematically;

The number of fringes shifted when we insert a film of refractive index n and thickness L in the Michelson Interferometer is given as;

ΔN = (2L/λ) (n-1)

where λ is the wavelength of the light used

Let’s make L the subject of the formula

(λ * ΔN)/2(n-1) = L

From the question ΔN = 8 , λ = 540 nm, n = 1.5

Plugging these values, we have

L = ((540 * 10^-9 * 8)/2(1.5-1) = (4320 * 10^-9)/1 = 4.32 * 10^-6 m
