How do the names of molecular compounds differ from the names of ionic compounds.
34kurt

Long Answer:

Ionic: Cation is named first followed by the anion.

If it's an ionic compound with a transition metal, there are more than one possible ion. Molecular - named with the least electronegative ion first + prefixes are given to both ions to indicate number of atoms in each element.

Short Answer: Ionic compounds- Cation is named first, followed by the anion.

An element that appears in the lower left corner of the periodic table is
Xelga [282]
This problem is honestly, very easy. Just grab a periodic table and find the element in Group 1 and Period 7. But first, let's discuss how the elements are arranged systematically in a periodic table. There are a lot of scientists who contributed to it, but the most famous one is Dimitri Mendeleev. He arranged the elements according to their atomic number. The elements starts from 1 which is Hydrogen up to the heaviest known elements which is Oganesson with an atomic number of 118. As you can observe, there is a gap between groups 3 and 4. This is done so that the periodic table does not take too much space horizontally. Thus, they are just placed at the bottom. These elements are called lanthanides (upper row) and actinides (lower row). The rows in the periodic table are called groups, and the columns are called periods.

Now, the element at the lower left corner (Group 1, Period 7) is Francium, abbreviated as Fr. It has an atomic number of 87. Some elements are actually synthesized, but Francium is a naturally occurring radioactive element. It was discovered by Marguerite Perey in France.

A 15.0 L tank of gas is contained at a high pressure of 8.20x10 4 torr. The tank is opened and the gas expands into an empty cha
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

P₂ = 20.5 torr

Explanation:

Given data:

Volume of tank = 15.0 L

Pressure of tank = 8.20×10⁴ torr

Final volume of tank = 6.00×10⁴ L

Final pressure = ?

Solution:

The given problem will be solved through the Boly's law,

"The volume of given amount of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure by keeping the temperature and number of moles constant"

Mathematical expression:

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

P₁ = Initial pressure

V₁ = initial volume

P₂ = final pressure

V₂ = final volume

Now we will put the values in formula,

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

8.20×10⁴ torr  ×  15.0 L = P₂ × 6.00×10⁴ L

P₂ = 8.20×10⁴ torr  ×  15.0 L / 6.00×10⁴ L

P₂ = 123×10⁴ torr.L/ 6.00×10⁴ L

P₂ = 20.5 torr

A compound contains 78.14% B and 21.86% H by mass and has a molar mass of 27.67 g/mol. What is the molecular formula of the comp
ziro4ka [17]

Answer:

The molecular formula of the compound is B₂H₆

Explanation:

From the question given above, the following data were obtained:

Composition of Boron (B) = 78.14%

Composition of Hydrogen (H) = 21.86%

Molar mass of compound = 27.67 g/mol

Molecular formula =?

Next, we shall determine the empirical formula of the compound. This can be obtained as follow:

B = 78.14%

H = 21.86%

Divide by their molar mass

B = 78.14 / 11 = 7.104

H = 21.86 / 1 = 21.86

Divide by the smallest

B = 7.104 / 7.104 = 1

H = 21.86 / 7.104 = 3

Thus, the empirical formula of the compound is BH₃

Finally, we shall determine the molecular formula of the compound. This can be obtained as illustrated below:

Molecular formula = empirical formula × n

Molecular formula = [BH₃]ₙ

Thus, we shall determine the value of n to obtain the molecular formula. The value of n can be obtained as follow:

[BH₃]ₙ = 27.67

[11 + (3×1)]n = 27.67

[11 + 3]n = 27.67

14n = 27.67

Divide both side by 14

n = 27.67 / 14

n = 2

Molecular formula = [BH₃]ₙ

Molecular formula = [BH₃]₂

Molecular formula = B₂H₆
