2. A liquid that is twice as dense as water is used in a barometer. With this barometer, atmospheric pressure would push the liq

Answer:

The reason why the height for the liquid is 5.18 m is because, for constant pressure, height is inversely proportional to density.

Explanation:

We know that pressure, P = ρgh where ρ = density of material, g = 9.8 m/s and h = height.

Since density of liquid = 2 × density of water = 2 × 1000 kg/m = 2000 kg/m³

Since atmospheric pressure = 101500 N/m²,

The height of liquid for this pressure is h = P/ρg = 101500/(2000 × 9.8) = 5.18 m

For the same pressure, the height for water is h = P/ρg = 101500/(1000 × 9.8) = 10.36 m

Since pressure = constant,

P = ρgh ⇒ P/ρg = h since P and g are constant, h ∝ 1/ρ

ρ₁h₁ = ρ₂h₂

So, the reason why the height for the liquid is 5.18 m is because, for constant pressure, height is inversely proportional to density.

Given: Saturated air changes temperature by 0.5°C/100 m. The air is completely saturated at the dew point. The dew point has bee
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

saturated air temperature by 0.5^{\circ}C/100 m

Dew point temperature is given by t=2^{\circ}C

Dew point is defined as the temperature after which air no longer to uphold the water vapor fuse with it and some water vapor may condense to a liquid.

air continues to rise for 1400 m

i.e. change in temperature would be \Delta t =\frac{0.5}{100}\times 1400=7^{\circ}C

Final temperature t_f

t_f+\Delta t=t

t_f=2-7=-5^{\circ}C

A 12-kg projectile is launched with an initial vertical speed of 20 m/s. It rises to a maximum height of 18 m above the launch p
kirill115 [55]

Answer:

Change in mechanical energy, \Delta E=283.2\ J

Explanation:

It is given that,

Mass of the projectile, m = 12 kg

Speed of the projectile, v = 20 m/s

Maximum height, h = 18 m

Initially, the projectile have only kinetic energy. it is given by :

K=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

K=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 12\ kg\times (20\ m/s)^2

K = 2400 J

Finally, it have only potential energy. it is given by :

P = mgh

P=12\ kg\times 9.8\ m/s^2\times 18\ m

P =2116.8 J

The change in mechanical energy is given by :

\Delta E=K-P

\Delta E=2400-2116.8

\Delta E=283.2\ J

So, the change in mechanical energy is 283.2 J. Hence, this is the required solution.

In a 50 km/h head-on crash test, the steering column of passenger car 1 moved 3 cm upward and 2 cm rearward. The steering column
Softa [21]

Answer:

Car 1

Explanation:

The steering column which moves the least is less likely to to the driver's chest ordinarily. Driver tends to remain in motion until restrained. Assuming a  seat belt not airbag

Generally one would compute a vector find direction and distance.  This is like solving for a hypotenuse  / in a right angled triangle problem. On face value the column moving the least is safer. The 6/24 would hit the upper chest, face, or possibly break the neck.

hence, car 1 moved 3 cm upward and 2 cm rearward is safer.

The battery charger for an mp3 player contains a step-down transformer with a turns ratio of 1:38, so that the voltage of 120 v
matrenka [14]
Transformer contains two coils: primary and secondary. They allow change of voltage to lower or higher value. In first case we have step-down and in second case we have step-up transformer.
Formula used for transformer is:\frac{N_{1} }{N_{2}} = \frac{V_{1}}{V_{2}}

Where:N1 = number of turns on primary coilN2 = number of turns on secondary coilV1 = voltage on primary coilV2 = voltage on secondary coil
In a step-down transformer primary coil has more turns than secondary coil. So the ratio 1:38 means that for each turn on secondary coil we have 38 turns on primary coil.
We can solve the equation for V2:V_{2} =  \frac{ V_{1}* N_{2}  }{ N_{1} }  \\  V_{2} =  \frac{ 120* x  }{ 38x} } \\ V_{2} = 3.16V

Secondary coil provides voltage of 3.16V.
