Answer: Option (A) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

Non-metals are the substances which tend to gain electrons from a donor atom in order to attain stability.

For example, atomic number of phosphorous is 15 and its electronic distribution is 2, 8, 5.

As it contains 5 valence electrons electrons therefore, it needs 3 more electrons in order to attain stability.

Hence, when one phosphorous atom combines with another phosphorous atom then it results in sharing of electrons. So, there will be formation a triple bond between the two phosphorous atoms.

Also, there will be one lone pair of electron on each phosphorous atom.

Thus, we can conclude that triple covalent bond would form between two atoms of phosphorus.

A solution is prepared by dissolving 2.61 g ethanol (C2H5OH) in 16.2 g water. What is the molality (mol/kg) of C2H5OH in the sol
stiks02 [169]

Answer:

3.50 molal

Explanation:

Molality → Moles of solute / kg of solvent.

Let's convert the solvent's mass from g to kg

16.2 g . 1kg / 1000 g = 0.0162 kg

Let's determine the moles from the solute

2.61 g . 1 mol / 46 g = 0.0567 moles

Molality → 0.0567 mol / 0.0162 kg = 3.50 m

What is the volume, in mL, of 0.50 moles of ammonia (NH3) at STP?
blagie [28]
For the purpose we will here use the ideal gas law:

p×V=n×R×T

V= ?
n = 0.5 moleT= 273.15 K (at STP)
p= 101.325 kPa (at STP)
R is  universal gas constant, and its value is 8.314 J/mol×K

Now when we have all necessary date we can calculate the number of moles:
V=nxRxT/p
V=0.5x8.314x273.15/101.325= 11.2 L = 11200 mL

What is the basis for the classification of changes in matter into physical and chemical changes quizlet
laiz [17]

Explanation:

The basis for classifying changes in matter into physical and chemical change is to see if a material is altered after going through a process.

In a physical change only the state of matter is usually altered especially its form or shape.

Chemical change alters a substance by producing new kinds that are totally different from it.

  • In  a chemical change, new kinds of matter are usually formed.
  • Such changes are usually irreversible.
  • Change of state is a reversible process.
