Answer:

(b) 24

Explanation:

Given that:

If atoms in a regular three-dimensional solid are about 10⁻¹⁰ m apart:

Then; the volume of the atom will be (10⁻¹⁰ m)³

= (10⁻³⁰ m)

Since, we were told that the cube have length 10⁻² m .; its volume will also be

= (10⁻² m) ³

= (10⁻⁶ m)

Now, the estimate of the number of atoms in the cube can now be:

N_A=\frac{V_{cube}}{V_{atom}}

= \frac{10^{-6}}{10^{-30}}

= 10²⁴

So,we can therefore conclude that our answer is 10²⁴  (Since we are asked to enter it in exponential form)

Upon combustion, a 0.8376 g sample of a compound containing only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen produces 1.6003 gco2 and 0.9827 gh
Wewaii [24]
Answer is: empirical formula for compound is C₂H₆O.
m(CO₂) = 1,6003 g.
n(CO₂) = m(CO₂) ÷ M(CO₂).
n(CO₂) = 1,6003 g ÷ 44 g/mol.
n(CO₂) = 0,0364 mol.
n(CO₂) = n(C).
m(C) = 0,0364 mol · 12 g/mol = 0,4368 g.
m(H₂O) = 0,9827 g.
n(H₂O) = 0,9827 g ÷ 18 g/mol.
n(H₂O) = 0,0546 mol.
n(H) = 2 · n(H₂O) = 0,1092 mol.
m(H) = 0,1092 mol · 1 g/mol = 0,1092 g.
m(O) = 0,8376 g - 0,4368 g - 0,1092 g = 0,2916 g.
n(O) = 0,2916 g ÷ 16 g/mol = 0,0182 mol.
n(C) : n(H) : n(O) = 0,0364 mol : 0,1092 mol : 0,0182 mol.
n(C) : n(H) : n(O) = 2 : 6 : 1.

Which transformation could take place at the anode of an electrochemical cell? Which transformation could take place at the anod
mr_godi [17]

Answer:

None of the above could take place at the anode.

Explanation:

In a cell, a redox reaction takes place, so one substance must reduce (gain electrons), and others must oxidize (lose electrons). At the anode, the substance oxidizes, and at the cathode the substance reduces.

Thus, we need to find what transformation oxidation is happening. To this, let's calculate the oxidation number (nox) of the atoms. If it's increasing, and oxidation is happening, if it's decreasing, a reduction is happening.

O₂ to H₂O:

O2 is a simple substance, so it has nox = 0. In a compound, O has nox -2 and H +1, so the nox of O is decreasing.

Cr₂O₇⁻² → Cr⁺²:

O has nox -2, so let's call the nox of Cr as x:

2x +7*(-2) = -2

2x -14 = -2

x = +6

And Cr⁺² has nox +2, so it's reducing.

F₂ to F⁻:

F₂ is a simple substance, so F has nox 0, and F⁻ has nox -1, then it's reducing.

HAsO₂ to As:

H has nox +1, and O has nox -2, so calling x the nox of As:

+1 + x + 2*(-2) = 0

1 + x - 4 = 0

x = +3

And As is a simple substance, that has nox 0, the it's reducing.

Thus, none of them is oxidizing, and none of them could take place at the anode.
