Ozone is a molecule that consists of three oxygen atoms. When high-energy ultraviolet rays strike ordinary oxygen molecules (O2), they split the molecule into two single oxygen atoms, known as atomic oxygen. A freed oxygen atom then combines with another oxygen molecule to form a molecule of ozone.  Hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides come from great variety of industrial and combustion processes. Motor vehicle exhaust and industrial emissions, gasoline vapors, and chemical solvents are some of the major sources of NOx and VOC that acts as a precursor of ozone. In urban areas, the number of automobiles are more and therefore, more production of such harmful gases. These gases in presence of sunlight leads to the formation of bad ozone.

The potential energy of a watermelon is 15.0 J. The watermelon is 3.0 m high. What is the mass of the watermelon?
maks197457 [2]

Answer:

m = 0.51[kg]

Explanation:

Potential energy is defined as the product of mass by gravity by height.

E_{pot}=m*g*h

where:

Epot = potential energy = 15 [J]

m = mass [kg]

g = gravity acceleration = 9.8 [m/s²]

h = elevation = 3 [m]

Now replacing:

E_{pot}=m*g*h\\15=m*9.8*3\\m = 0.51[kg]

he block is released, and it slides 2.0 m (from the point at which it is released) across a horizontal surface before friction s
alex41 [277]

Answer:

0.245

Explanation:

When the block is released, the initial elastic potential energy stored in the spring is entirely converted into kinetic energy of the block.

Therefore, we can calculate the initial speed of the block:

\frac{1}{2}kx^2 = \frac{1}{2}mv^2

where the term on the left is the potential energy and where the term on the right is the kinetic energy, and where

k = 4500 N/m is the spring constant

x = 8.0 cm = 0.08 m is the compression of the spring

m = 3.0 kg is the mass of the block

v is the initial velocity

Solving for v,

v=\sqrt{\frac{kx^2}{m}}=\sqrt{\frac{(4500)(0.08)^2}{3.0}}=3.1 m/s

Then, after the block is released, all its kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy as the block slows down, due to friction. Therefore, the work done by friction is equal to the initial kinetic energy of the block.

The force of friction is

F=\mu mg

where

\mu is the coefficient of friction

g=9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity

So the work done by it is (in magnitude)

W=Fd=\mu mg d

where

d = 2.0 m is the distance covered

Therefore,

\frac{1}{2}mv^2 = \mu mg d

And solving for \mu,

\mu = \frac{v^2}{2gd}=\frac{3.1^2}{2(9.8)(2.0)}=0.245

How much work (in j) must be done to lift a stack of bricks, which has a mass of 400 kg, from the ground to a height of 3 m? (g
svetoff [14.1K]
Given: Mass m = 400 Kg;   Height h = 3 m;     g = 10 m/s²

Required:  Work = ?

Formula: Work = Force x distance  F = ma    a = g    F = mg

W = fd

W = mgh

W = (400 Kg)(10 m/s²)( 3 m)

W = 12,000 Kg.m²/s²

W = 12,000 J
