There is usually an increased demand for energy in the body with increased physical exercise. Therefore for the body to meet the energy demands, the metabolic rate of the body increases as it burns more glucose to produce more ATPs. More oxygen is required to efficiently produce many ATPs in the mitochondria which is why we pant when doing extraneous physical exercises.
