The options is as follows:

a. When lithium is placed in water, the temperature of the container increases.

b. The combustion of kerosene releases heat.

c. When barium hydroxide is mixed with ammonium chloride, ice crystals form on the outside of the container.

d. The reaction of trinitrotoluene with oxygen releases heat and light.

Answer:

c. When barium hydroxide is mixed with ammonium chloride, ice crystals form on the outside of the container.

Explanation:

An endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction whereby heat or energy is absorb from the environment. The heat absorb from the environment is used to provide the activation energy needed for the reaction to be carried out. This energy can be absorbed in the form of heat, light and electricity.

In endothermic reaction their is an overall decrease in the temperature as heat is usually absorb from the surrounding . Usually, after the reaction the components feel cold. Examples of endothermic reaction is dissolving salt in water. Other example of endothermic process are cooking an egg and evaporating liquid water.

Note not all endothermic process are chemical reaction because chemical reaction usually involve breaking or formation of chemical bond. Example of endothermic process that are not chemical reaction is sweating.

All the other process, their is a release of heat to the surrounding except When barium hydroxide is mixed with ammonium chloride, ice crystals form on the outside of the container.

List 2 things that about Velocity and Speed that are Different and two that are the same.
frozen [14]
Hey there!
Speed and velocity both:
1) Measure how fast something is moving
2) Both measured in miles per hour, meters/second, etc (rates)
However, there's a prime difference:
Different because:
1) Velocity is speed, but in a certain direction
2) Velocity is a vector
3) Velocity can be positive or negative, unlike speed.
I added another just in case you had a preference :)

Hope this helps!

What is the theoretical yield of methanol (CH3OH) when 12.0 grams of H2 is mixed with 74.5 grams of CO? CO + 2H2 CH3OH
AlladinOne [14]
1) We need to convert 12.0 g of H2 into moles of H2, and 74.5 grams of CO into moles of CO
Molar mass of H2:    M(H2) = 2*1.0= 2.0 g/mol
Molar mass of CO:   M(CO) = 12.0 +16.0 = 28.0 g/mol

12.0 g  H2 * 1 mol/2.0 g = 6.0 mol H2
74.5 g CO * 1 mol/28.0 g = 2.66 mol CO

2) Now we can use reaction to find out what substance will react completely, and what will be leftover.

                                  CO       +         2H2   ------->      CH3OH
                                 1 mol              2 mol
given 2.66 mol 6 mol (excess)

How much
we need CO? 3 mol 6 mol

We see that H2 will be leftover, because for 6 moles H2 we need 3 moles CO, but we have only 2.66 mol CO.
So, CO will react completely, and we are going to use CO to find the mass of CH3OH.

3)                              CO       +         2H2   ------->      CH3OH
                                 1 mol                                        1 mol
                                2.66 mol                                    2.66 mol

4) We have 2.66 mol CH3OH
Molar mass CH3OH : M(CH3OH) = 12.0 +  4*1.0 + 16.0 = 32.0 g/mol

2.66 mol CH3OH * 32.0 g CH3OH/ 1 mol CH3OH =  85.12 g CH3OH

Answer is D) 85.12 grams.

The value of Ka for phenol (a weak acid), C6H5OH, is 1.00×10-10. Write the equation for the reaction that goes with this equilib
I am Lyosha [343]

Answer:

Ka=\frac{[C_6H_5O^-][H^+]}{[C_6H_5OH]}

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, weak acids are characterized by the fact they do not dissociate completely, it means they do not divide into the conjugated base and acid at all, a percent only, which is quantified via equilibrium. In such a way, the chemical equation representing such incomplete dissociation is said to be:

C_6H_5OH\rightleftharpoons C_6H_5O^-+H^+

Thus, we can write the law of mass action, which consider the equilibrium concentrations of all the involved species, which is also known as the acid dissociation constant which accounts for the capacity the acid has to yield hydronium ions:

K=Ka=\frac{[C_6H_5O^-][H^+]}{[C_6H_5OH]}

Best regards.
