Part A:

The five number summary is consisting of : Median or 2nd quartile(Q2), 1st quartile(Q1), 3rd quartile(Q3), Lowest and Highest values.

For creating the five number summary for each set, first we need to rearrange the data set in ascending order:

Town A : 3 4 5 5 6 7 9 9 20

Median is the middle value in the set. Here, the middle value is 6. So the median or second quartile(Q2) = 6. The lowest value is 3 and highest value is 20.

The median splits the remaining data into two sets. The first set is 3, 4, 5, 5. The median of this set is \frac{4+5}{2}= \frac{9}{2} =4.5

So, first quartile (Q1) = 4.5

The other set is 7, 9, 9, 20. The median of this set is: \frac{9+9}{2}=\frac{18}{2}=9

So, third quartile (Q3) = 9

The interquartile range(IQR)= Q3 - Q1 = 9 - 4.5 = 4.5

Town B : 3 3 5 5 6 8 8 9 9

The middle value in the set is 6. So, the median or second quartile(Q2) =6. The lowest value is 3 and the highest value is 9.

The first set in the left of median is: 3 3 5 5 and median of this set= \frac{3+5}{2}=\frac{8}{2}=4

So, first quartile (Q1) = 4

The second set in the right of median is : 8 8 9 9 and the median of this set = \frac{8+9}{2}=\frac{17}{2}=8.5

So, third quartile (Q3) = 8.5

The interquartile range(IQR)= Q3 - Q1 =8.5 - 4 = 4.5

Part B:

A box plot is called symmetric when the median is in the middle of the box, that means Q2 should be equally distanced from Q1 and Q3.

For town A, distance between Q1 and Q2 = 6 - 4.5 = 1.5 and distance between Q2 and Q3 = 9 - 6 = 3. As the distances are different, so the box plot is not symmetric.

For town B, distance between Q1 and Q2 = 6 - 4 = 2 and distance between Q2 and Q3 = 8.5 - 6 = 2.5. As the distances are different, so this box plot is also not symmetric.

Answer:

89⁷/₈ in

Step-by-step explanation:

The perimeter of a shape can be found by adding up the side lengths.

So, we have to find 20⁹/₁₆ + 23³/₈ + 21⁵/₁₆ + 24⁵/₈

Common denominator (16): 20⁹/₁₆ + 23⁶/₁₆ + 21⁵/₁₆ + 24¹⁰/₁₆

Add fractions: ⁹/₁₆ + ⁶/₁₆ + ⁵/₁₆ + ¹⁰/₁₆ = ³⁰/₁₆

Simplify: ³⁰/₁₆ = ¹⁵/₈ = 1⁷/₈

Add whole numbers: 1⁷/₈ + 20 + 23 + 21 + 24 = 89⁷/₈ in

The length of a rectangle is 12 units longer than the width. The perimeter is 7 times the width. Find the length and the width o
katen-ka-za [31]

Log explanation below; answer is at bottom.

If the length, l, is 12 units longer than the width, w, then w = l - 12. If the perimeter, p,

p = 2l +2w,

is 7 x w, then

w = p/7

When two things are set equal to the same variable, they are equal to each other, so,

l - 12 = p/7

Now you need to get rid of the p so you are only working with one variable. To do this you plug in whatever p is equal to for p, so,

l - 12 = (2l + 2w)/7 now to get rid of the w do the same thing we did with p just for w. So,

l - 12 = (2l + 2(l - 12))/7

To solve this you want to multiply both sides by 7 first to get rid of the fraction.

7l - 84 = 2l + 2(l - 12)

Next you want to distribute the 2 over the l and the 12.

7l - 84 = 2l + 2l - 24

Next you want to combine like terms on each side.

7l - 84 = 4l - 24

Next add 84 and subtract 4l from sides to isolate the variable.

3l = 60

Now divide each side by 11 to get your answer.

l = 20.

To find the width,

w = l - 12

Just plug in and solve.

w = 20 - 12

w = 8

So your length and width are 20 and 8.

l = 20

w = 8
