Describe Thomson's concept of the atom?

Thomson atomic model was proposed by J.J Thomson in the year 1904 just after the discovery of electrons. According to the postulates of Thomson’s atomic model, an atom resembles a sphere of positive charge with electrons present inside the sphere. The positive and negative charge is equal and therefore an atom is electrically neutral. Thomson’s atomic model was compared to a spherical plum pudding as well as a watermelon. It was compared to a plum pudding because the electrons in the model look like the dry fruits embedded in a sphere of positive charge just like a spherical plum pudding. The model has also been compared to a watermelon because the red edible part of a watermelon was compared to the sphere having a positive charge and the black seeds filling the watermelon looked similar to the electrons inside the sphere.

In Thomson's model<span>, the </span>atom<span> is composed of electrons surrounded by a soup of positive charge to balance the electrons' negative charges, like negatively charged "plums" surrounded by positively charged "pudding". The 1904 </span>Thomson model<span>was disproved by Hans Geiger's and Ernest Marsden's 1909 gold foil experiment.</span>

The sound emitted by bats has a wavelength of 4.13 mm.
blagie [28]

Answer:

the frequency of a wave is equal to the linear speed divided the wavelength. so in equation form.

f = v / l

where f is the frequency

v iss the linear speed

l is the wavelength

f = ( 345 m/s ) / ( 4.38 mm ) ( 1 m / 1000 mm )

f = 78767 per second

Two sources of light of wavelength 710 nm are 9 m away from a pinhole of diameter 1 mm. How far apart must the sources be for th
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

7.8 mm

Explanation:

Wavelength = λ = 710 nm = 710×10⁻⁹ m

Distance between light sources =  L = 9 m

Diameter of pinhole = d = 1 mm = 1×10⁻³ m

Rayleigh Criterion

D=1.22\frac{L\lambda}{d}\\\Rightarrow D=1.22\frac{9\times 710\times 10^{-9}}{1\times 10^{-3}}\\\Rightarrow D=0.0077\ m=7.8\ mm

Distance between difraction pattern is 7.8 mm.

A skier skies down a slope with an average speed of 50 km/s. How far does the skier travel in 5 minutes?
aliya0001 [1]

Answer:

15000000 m

Explanation:

From the question,

Speed (S) = Distance(d)/Time(t)

S = d/t....................... Equation 1

Make d the subject of the equation

d = St..................... Equation 2

Given: S = 50 km/s = 50000 m/s, t = 5 minutes = 5*60 seconds = 300 seconds

Substitute these values into equation 2

d = 50000(300)

d = 15000000 m

Hence the skier travels 15000000 m
