Answer:

Q1. a) 4Al + 3O₂ ➟ 2Al₂O₃

b) 7.4 moles

c) 11.1 moles

Explanation:

To balance an equation, ensure that the total number of atoms of each element on both sides are equal.

Al + O₂ ➟ Al₂O₃

On the left side of the arrow, you would find the reactants while the product(s) is found on the left hand side.

<u>Reactants</u>

Al atoms: 1

O atoms: 2

<u>Product</u>

Al atoms: 2

O atoms: 3

After balancing,

4Al + 3O₂ ➟ 2Al₂O₃

We have 4 Al atoms and 6 O atoms on both sides.

b) The balanced equation tells us the mole ratio of Al to Al₂O₃.

Al: Al₂O₃

= 4: 2 (÷2 throughout)

= 2: 1

This means that for every 1 mole of Al₂O₃, 2 moles of Al is needed.

Since we need 3.7 moles of Al₂O₃,

number of moles of Al needed

= 2×3.7

= 7.4

c) 4Al + 3O₂ ➟ 2Al₂O₃

For every 4 moles of Al, 3 moles of O are needed.

For each mole of Al,

number of moles of O needed

= 3÷4

= 0.75

For 14.8 moles of Al,

number of moles of O required

= 0.75 ×14.8

= 11.1

A gas at constant temperature has a pressure of 404.6 kPa with a volume of 12 ml. If the volume changes to 43ml, what is the new
blagie [28]

Answer:

The answer is

<h2>112.912 kPa</h2>

Explanation:

The new pressure can be found by using the formula for Boyle's law which is

P_1V_1 = P_2V_2

Since we are finding the new pressure

P_2 =  \frac{P_1V_1}{V_2}  \\

404.6 kPa = 404600 Pa

From the question we have

P_2 =  \frac{404600 \times 12}{43}  =  \frac{4855200}{43}  \\  = 112911.6279... \\  = 112912

We have the final answer as

<h3>112.912 kPa</h3>

Hope this helps you

A 0.15 m solution of chloroacetic acid has a ph of 1.86. What is the value of ka for this acid?
dem82 [27]

Answer: 1.67\times 10^{-3}

Explanation:

ClCH_2COOH\rightarrow ClCH_2COO^-+H^+

   cM              0             0

c-c\alpha        c\alpha          c\alpha

So dissociation constant will be:

K_a=\frac{(c\alpha)^{2}}{c-c\alpha}

Given:  c = 0.15 M

pH = 1.86

K_a = ?

Putting in the values we get:

Also pH=-log[H^+]

1.86=-log[H^+]

[H^+]=0.01

[H^+]=c\times \alpha

0.01=0.15\times \alpha

\alpha=0.06

As [H^+]=[ClCH_2COO^-]=0.01

K_a=\frac{(0.01)^2}{(0.15-0.15\times 0.06)}

K_a=1.67\times 10^{-3]

Thus the vale of K_a for the acid is 1.67\times 10^{-3}

Will you obtain a pure solid in evaporation technique? Justify your answer
aniked [119]

Evaporation technique is used to separate a compound dissolved in a solvent by vaporizing the solvent and converting it to gaseous state. This leaves behind the solid residue present in the solution after the pure solvent is vaporized. The solvent vapors can be collected and condensed to get pure solvent. But the solid residue cannot be considered pure as it is the left over solid after all the solvent is evaporated. If the solution has some impurities, the solid left over includes all of the impurities. So, we cannot obtain a pure solid in evaporation technique.
