Explanation:

Work is the transfer of energy when force is applied in a certain direction.

Mathematically,           Work = Force × Distance

Unit of force is newton and unit of distance is distance is meter.

Therefore, it is known that 1 Newton meter = 1 joule.

Hence, we can conclude that work is measured in joules.

Why the planets shine though they do not have their own light
Gnom [1K]
Planets reflect sunlight. Most planets are close enough to the sun that they can reflect its light and that is why you can see them. Some planets that are far from the sun do not light up because they have no light to reflect.

I hope this was a satisfying answer. Have a great night!

Calculate the ph of a 0.005 m solution of potassium oxide k2o
Alecsey [184]
First, we have to see how K2O behaves when it is dissolved in water:

K2O + H20 = 2 KOH

According to reaction K2O has base properties, so it forms a hydroxide in water.
For the reaction next relation follows:

c(KOH) : c(K2O) = 1 : 2

So,

c(KOH)= 2 x c(K2O)= 2 x 0.005 = 0.01 M = c(OH⁻)

Now we can calculate pH:

pOH= -log c(OH⁻) = -log 0.01 = 2

pH= 14-2 = 12

Compare the boiling points of 1-pentyne and 1-octyne.
Elan Coil [88]
1-pentyne consists of a carbon chain of 5 carbons one with a triple bond. 1-octyne is a carbon chain of 8 carbons with a triple bond at some point. It is known that the longer the carbon chain the higher the boiling point since more energy will be required to break the bonds between carbons. Based on this it is predicted that 1-octyne will have a higher boiling point than 1-pentyne.

what volume of hydrogen gas is evolved from a reaction between 0.52 g of Na and water? This gas is collected at 20 C and 745mmHg
guapka [62]
The  volume of  hydrogen  gas  that evolved  is   calculated  as  follows
by  use  of   ideal  gas  equation

that  is  PV = nRT
P=745  mm hg
V= ?
R(gas  constant)= 62.36 L.mm hg/mol.k
T= 20 + 273 = 293 k
n=number  of  moles which is calculated as  follows
find the  moles  of Na  used
= 0.52/23=0.023  moles

write the reacting equation
2Na +2H2O =2NaOH +H2
by  use  of reacting  ratio  between  Na : H2  which  is  2:1  therefore  the mole  of H2 = 0.023/2 =0.0115  moles

by  making  the  volume  the   subject  of  the formula
v=nRT/P
V= (0.0115 x 62.36  x 293) / 745  = 0.283 L
