Brandon ice skates with his family at a local park every winter. Last summer, he noticed the pond he was fishing in was in the e

xact location of the ice skating rink. Which best explains why this is possible?
A. a slab of concrete is placed over the pond and covered with ice each winter for skating

B. bulldozers break the ice down after each winter and the pond is filled with water for the summer

C. the fish hatch under the frozen water and their movement causes the ice to break down into water again

D. the water is frozen solid as the temperature drops each winter and the ice melts when the temperature increases again

A is possible but unlikely as the concrete will be HUGE!

B is also unlikely as the ice will melt as it is broken down by bulldozers n turn into water!

C is impossible as it requires a LOT of fish.

D. the water is frozen solid as the temperature drops each winter and the ice melts when the temperature increases again is the best explanation.

Hi There!

A. a slab of concrete is placed over the pond and covered with ice each winter for skating (Incorrect, because if there was a slab of concrete of the ice the ice would have already melted before he even got there.)

B. bulldozers break the ice down after each winter and the pond is filled with water for the summer (Incorrect, bulldozers are way to heavy and they wold have feel in the ice the melting of ice is a natural occurrence.)

C. the fish hatch under the frozen water and their movement causes the ice to break down into water again (Incorrect, because fish eggs don't hatch when its cold.)

D. the water is frozen solid as the temperature drops each winter and the ice melts when the temperature increases again (Correct, because ice melts when the temperatures raises.)

Hope This Helps :)

A bullet of mass m and speed v is fired at, hits and passes completely through a pendulum bob of mass M on the end of a stiff ro
dexar [7]

Required value of initial speed of the bullet be ( 4M/m)√(gL).

Given parameters:

Mass of the bullet =m.

Mass of the bob of the pendulum = M.

speed of the bullet before collision = v

Speed of the bullet after collision = v/2.

Length of the pendulum stiff rod = L.

Let speed transmitted to the pendulum be u.

Using principle of conservation of momentum:

mv = Mu + mv/2

⇒ Mu = mv/2

⇒ u = (m/M)v/2

We know that: to make the bob over the top of the trajectory without falling backward in its circular path, required speed be = √(4gL). [ where g = acceleration due to gravity]

To be minimum initial speed the bullet must have in order for the pendulum bob to just barely swing through a complete vertical circle:

u = √(4gL)

⇒  (m/M)v/2 = √(4gL)

⇒ v =( 4M/m)√(gL).

Hence, minimum required  speed of the bullet be ( 4M/m)√(gL).

discharge occurs when oppositely charged objects get close enough for the air between them to become electrically charged.
Wittaler [7]

Answer:

It does both. Once they get close enough the air does start to get charged, but then they eventually discharge when they touch.

A magnetic field of 37.2 t has been achieved at the mit francis bitter national magnetic laboratory. Find the current needed to
jeka57 [31]

Answer:

Here is the complete question:

https://www.chegg.com/homework-help/questions-and-answers/magnetic-field-372-t-achieved-mit-francis-bitter-national-magnetic-laboratory-find-current-q900632

a) Current for long straight wire  =3.7\ MA

b) Current at the center of the circular coil =2.48\times 10^{5}\ A

c) Current near the center of a solenoid 236.8\ A

Explanation:

⇒ Magnetic Field due to long straight wire is given by (B),where B=\frac{\mu\times I}{2\pi(r) },so\ I=\frac{B\ 2\pi(r)}{\mu}

\mu=4\pi \times 10^{-7}\ \frac{henry}{m}

Plugging the values,

Conversion 1\times 10^6 A = 1\ MA,and 2cm=\frac{2}{100}=0.02\ m

I=\frac{37.2\times \ 2\pi(0.02)}{4\ \pi \times (10^{-7})}=3.7\ MA

⇒Magnetic Field at the center due to circular coil (at center) is given by,B=\frac{\mu\times I (N)}{2(a)}

So I= \frac{2B(a)}{\mu\ N} = \frac{2\times 37.2\times 0.42}{4\pi\times 10^{-7}\times 100}=2.48\time 10{^5}\ A

⇒Magnetic field due to the long solenoid,B=\mu\ nI=\mu (\frac{N}{l})I

Then I=\frac{B}{\mu(\frac{N}{L})} \approx 236.8\A

So the value of current are  3.7 MA,2.48\times 10^{5} A and 236.8\ A respectively.
