<u>Answer:</u>

<u>For a:</u> The volume of graphite is 5.02cm^3

<u>For b:</u> The volume of bromine is 13.54cm^3

<u>Explanation:</u>

To calculate volume of a substance, we use the equation:

\text{Density of substance}=\frac{\text{Mass of substance}}{\text{Volume of substance}}      ......(1)

  • <u>For a:</u>

Density of graphite = 2.25g/cm^3

Mass of graphite = 11.3 g

Putting values in equation 1, we get:

2.25g/cm^3=\frac{11.3g}{\text{Volume of graphite}}\\\\\text{Volume of graphite}=\frac{11.3g}{2.25g/cm^3}=5.02cm^3

Hence, the volume of graphite is 5.02cm^3

  • <u>For b:</u>

Density of bromine = 2.928g/cm^3

Mass of bromine = 39.657 g

Putting values in equation 1, we get:

2.928g/cm^3=\frac{39.657g}{\text{Volume of bromine}}\\\\\text{Volume of bromine}=\frac{39.657g}{2.928g/cm^3}=13.54cm^3

Hence, the volume of bromine is 13.54cm^3

Carbon-12 contains 6 protons and 6 neutrons. The radius of the nucleus is approximately 2.7 fm (femtometers) and the radius of t
Slav-nsk [51]

Explanation:

Let us assume that volumes is equal to spheres  volume of nucleus.

fm = femto meter = 10^{-15}

pm = pico meter = 10^{-12}

Hence, calculate the volume as follows.

          V = \frac{4}{3} \times \pi \times r^{3}

              = \frac{4}{3} \times 3.14 \times (2.7)^{3}

              = 82.4481 fm^{3} (cubic femtometers)

or,          = 82 fm^{3}

Now, we will calculate the volume of the atom as follows.

          V = \frac{4}{3} \times \pi \times r^{3}

             = \frac{4}{3} \times 3.14 \times (70)^{3}

             = 1436758.4 pm^{3} (cubic picometers)

thus, we can conclude that volume of the nucleus is 82 fm^{3}  and volume of the atom is 1436758.4 pm^{3}.

When heating a solution to boiling on a hot plate, start by ___________. Then, turn the heat to ___________to start. If necessar
Aleonysh [2.5K]

Answer:

1. starting and stabilizing the stir function

2. a medium heat

3.turn up the heat setting

Explanation:

A chemical reaction can be defined as a chemical process which typically involves the transformation or rearrangement of the atomic, ionic or molecular structure of an element through the breakdown and formation of chemical bonds to produce a new compound or substance.

Some of the laboratory apparatus (equipment) used for conducting a chemical reaction are conical flask, Bunsen burner, beaker, tongs, crucible, round bottom flask etc.

When heating a solution to boiling on a hot plate, start by starting and stabilizing the stir function. Then, turn the heat to a medium heat to start. If necessary, turn up the heat setting after waiting about ten minutes without seeing boiling.

The safety precautions that must be taken when heating a solution to boiling on a hot plate;

I. A proper inspection of the round bottom flask for cracks, irregularities or any imperfection.

II. Ensure you avoid heating the flask while it is closed.

III. When suspending the flask on a hot plate, you should ensure that you use a clamp for stability.

During a change of state, the temperature of a substance _____.
Natali5045456 [20]
Hello,

Your questions states:

During a change of state, the temperature of a substance _____?

In which you gave us some choices:

A. decreases if the arrangement of particles in the substance changes.
B. remains constant until the change of state is complete.
C. increases if the kinetic energy of the particles in the substance increases.
D. increases during melting and vaporization and decreases during freezing and condensation.

Your answer would be:

B. remains constant until the change of state is complete.

Your explanation/Reasoning:

It absorbs the energy, then after the phase changes it then increases the temperature all over again.

Have a nice day:)

Hope this helps!

What is paper chromatography? Calculate the Rr value of a colored dye that traveled 52 mm on a chromatography strip while the so
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

Answer:

Paper chromatography is a basic technique of chromatography. It consist in the separation of the mixe components using a solvent.

Explanation:

Paper chromatography is a basic technique of chromatography. It consists in the separation of the mixed components using a solvent.

Paper chromatography consists of put some dot of the mix using a glass capillary into a specialized paper, generally made of cellulose, this is called a stationary phase.

Then you put this paper into a camera of glass named, chromatography camera, where previously contain a solvent. The solvent also know as a mobile phase, the type can be defined before the test and involves a study of the kind of the mix, and the compound you want to separate.

The chromatography camera has to be closed all the time during the test, and you can't move at all because the movement of the solvent can alternate the result.

Very often, the solution of the solvent is a mix of different liquid substances with different polarities.

When the stationary phase put into the camera, the solvent starts to move up over the paper, until the separation of the compounds is observable.

the Rf is a value who relates the move of the mobile phase with the move of the distance traveled by the substance tested.

To undersant the paper chromatography, you can watch the images attached.

The first is an image of the chromatography camera.

The second one is an image of a cellulose paper after the chromatography is done. You can watch the dots who indicates the traveling of the compound across the paper.

The third one can show you the evolutions of paper chromatography, from the beginning to the end.

To calculate the Rf value you have to use the equation:

Rf = distance traveled by the substance/distance traveled by the solvent/

<u>Rf = 52mm/81mm =0.64</u>
