A transport plane takes off from a level landing field with two gliders in tow, one behind the other. The mass of each glider is

700 kg, and the total resistance (air drag plus friction with the runway) on each may be assumed constant and equal to 4300 N. The tension in the towrope between the transport plane and the first glider is not to exceed 12000 N.
If a speed of 40 m/s is required for takeoff, what minimum length of runway is needed?

Answer:

Length = 155.6 m

Explanation:

given data

mass = 700 kg

total resistance = 4300 N

tension = 12000 N

speed = 40 m/s

solution

we get here equation for glider in the back  and front

for the glider in the back

T - 2400 = 700 a    ...........1

for the glider in front

12000 - T - 2400 = 700a    .............2

now we add both  these equations

12000 - 4800 = 1400 a     .............3

a = 5.14 m/s²

and

now we use equation of motion

v² - u² = 2 a S    .............4

40² = 2 × 5.14 × S

so

Length = 155.6 m

If you had started with a larger mass, how would the half-life change?
iogann1982 [59]

Answer:

There is no change, unless your mass is somehow at the quantum level, at which the concept of half-life breaks down.

Half life is a property of the specific radioactive isotope...NOT of the initial sample's mass.

Answer:

5.25 J

Explanation:

W = PE = (f)(x)

PE = 35N*0.15m

PE = 5.25 N*m

1 N*m = 1 J

PE = 5.25 J

Because Earth's rotation is gradually slowing, the length of each day increases: The day at the end of 1.0 century is 1.0 ms lon
stira [4]

Answer:

0.088 seconds

0.0880000273785 second

0.08800054757 seconds

Explanation:

In the question it is given each century adds 1 ms to a day due to the slowing rotation of the Earth

In 88 centuries the length of the first day of the year will be

88 × 1 = 88 ms = 0.088 seconds

1 ms = 1 century

1 century = 100 years × 365.25 days

⇒1 ms = 36525 days

1\ day=\frac{1}{365.25}=2.7378\times 10^{-5} ms=2.7378\times 10^{-8} s

Sum of the gain on the first day would be

0.088 + 2.7378×10⁻⁸ = 0.0880000273785 second

Sum of the gain on the second day would be

0.088 + 2.7378×10⁻⁸+2.7378×10⁻⁸ = 0.08800054757 seconds
