Answer:

The simplest chemical formula of the compound is Cu(C₆H₁₁O₇)₂

Explanation:

Given mass of sample = 1.4 g

mass of copper in the sample = 0.2 g

mass of the gluconate =1.4 - 0.2 = 1.2 g

The mole ratio is determined first using the formula;

mole ratio = reacting mass / atomic mass

atomic mass of copper = 63.55

mass of gluconate, C₆H₁₁O₇ = 12*6 + 1*11 + 16*7 = 195 g/mol

mole ratio ( copper : gluconate) = 0.2/63.55 : 1.4/195

mole ratio ( copper : gluconate) =  0.003 : 0.007

convert to whole number ratios by dividing with the smallest ratio

mole ratio ( copper : gluconate) = 0.003/0.003 : 0.007/0.003

mole ratio ( copper : gluconate) = 1 : 2

Therefore, the simplest chemical formula of the compound is Cu(C₆H₁₁O₇)₂

Balance the following redox reaction by inserting the appropriate coefficients. SO4^2- + NH3 = SO3^2- + H2O + N2
Harlamova29_29 [7]

SO₄²⁻  +NH₃  →   SO₃²⁻ + H₂O  +N₂

The  balanced  of  the above  redox reaction   is as below

3SO₄²⁻ + 2NH₃   →  3SO₃²⁻  + 3 H₂O  + N₂

 Explanation

According   to the law of mass conservation the  number  of atoms  in the reactant side  must  be equal to number of atoms in product side.

Inserting coefficient 3 in front of SO₄² , 2  in front  of NH₃, 3 in front  of SO₃²⁻  and 3 in front  of H₂O balance the equation above. This  is  because  the number  of atoms  are equal in both side.

for example there are 2 atoms of N in both side of the reaction.

What happened during the Renaissance that encouraged progress in the study of matter?
lukranit [14]

During the dark ages-All that wasn't around the christian religion were lost. Knowledge and discoveries before the Dark Ages were mainly in Greek ideas. Biblic scripts however were in Latin. Therefore all inventions up to the dark ages were lost and only religious scripts preserved in the churches. Outside the church, no one knew how to write, read or even communicate.

What element is being oxidized in the following redox reaction?
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

The O is being oxidized, but at the same time, is being reducted.

Explanation:

H₂O₂(l) + ClO₂(aq) → ClO₂(aq) + O₂(g)

In this reaction, we have 4 compounds:

Hydrogen peroxide

Chlorine dioxide (twice)

Oxygen

In both dioxide, the Cl acts with +4 in oxidation state; the oxygen acts with -2.

Oxgen in ground state has 0, as oxidation number.

In peroxide, the H acts with +1 but  the oxygen acts with -1.

Peroxide is making the oxidation number from the O in the ClO₂, to decrease (reduction) and to increase in the O, at the ground state.

Hydrogen peroxide is a good reducing and oxidizing agent at the same time.
