A spherical hot-air balloon is initially filled with air at 120 kPa and 20°C with an initial diameter of 5 m. Air enters this ba

lloon at 120 kPa and 20°C with a velocity of 3 m/s through a 1-m-diameter opening. How many minutes will it take to inflate this balloon to a 16.9-m diameter when the pressure and temperature of the air in the balloon remain the same as the air entering the balloon? The gas constant of air is R = 0.287 kPa·m3/kg·K.

Answer:

27.78 s

Explanation:

Assume ideal gas, since pressure and temperature of the air inside the balloon is the same as air entering the balloon, then the volume (and its rate) stays the same.

The cross-sectional area of the hole where air enters

A = \pi d^2/4 = \pi 1^2/4 = \pi/4 m^2

Hence the volume rate:

\dot{V} = vA = 3*\pi/4 = 3\pi/4 m^3/s

The total volume of the spherical balloon is

V = 4\pi r^3/3 = 4\pi (5/2)^3/3 = 125\pi/6 m^3

Hence the time it takes to fill this much at a constant rate of 3π/4 is

t = V/\dot{V} = \frac{125\pi/6}{3\pi/4} = \frac{125*4}{6*3} = 27.78 s

Answer:

1) C, 2) C, 3) B, 4) D, 5) A/B, 6) D, 7) D, 8) A, 9) B, 10) A

Explanation:

1) Seconds, minutes and days are time units. (Correct answer: C)

2) The displacement is shortest distance between the point of origin and the point of destination. (Correct answer: C)

3) The velocity is the rate of change of position in time. (Correct answer: B)

4) Graphs are a very useful ressource to infer characteristics inherent to a studied physical variable. (Correct answer: D)

5) There are two possible answers, since both milimeters and meters are units for distance. (Correct answers: A/B)

6) The distance is the arc length of the entire path that object travelled. (Answer: D)

7) Traditionally, in a position vs. time graph we plot time in the x-axis. (Answer: D)

8) In this case, we use a distance-time graph, where travelled distance is the dependent variable and time is the independent variable. (Answer: A)

9) The point of origin is the initial position of the object. (Answer: B)

10) The point of destination is the final position of the object. (Answer: A)

Jobisdone [24]

Explanation:

W = mg

m = 740g = 740/1000kg = 0.74kg

g = 15.6ms^-2

W = 0.74x15.6

W = 11.544 N

Looking at the same nonmetal group on the periodic table, how does the reactivity of an element in period 2 compare to the react
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
The reactivity of a nonmetal element in period 2 would be more violent than an element in period 4, as the size of the element and its ability to gain electrons would decrease as you go down the group in the table. Nonmetals want to form negative ions, as their weak valence shell allows them to gain electrons from other elements.

From the information gathered, the answer is '<span>The period 2 element would be more reactive because the attractive force of protons is stronger when electrons are attracted to a closer electron shell'. </span>
