A scuba diver creates a spherical bubble with a radius of 3.0 cm at a depth of 30.0 m where the total pressure (including atmosp

heric pressure) is 4.00 atm. Part A What is the radius of the bubble when it reaches the surface of the water? (Assume atmospheric pressure to be 1.00 atm and the temperature to be 298 K.)

Answer:

Radius of the bubble reaches the surface of the water = 4.68 cm

Explanation:

We know Ideal gas equation PV = nRT

Since amount of gas and temperature remains constant

so p₁v₁ = p₂v₂

Volume of Spherical bubble with a radius of 3.0 cm

⇒ v₁= \frac{4}{3}\pir^{3}

⇒ v₁ = \frac{4}{3} x 3.14 x (3)^{3}

Pressure at the depth p₁ = 4 atm

Volume of bubble when it reaches the surface of water =  \frac{4}{3}\pir^{3}

Pressure p₂ = 1 atm

      p₁v₁ = p₂v₂

⇒  4 x  \frac{4}{3} x 3.14 x (3)^{3} =  1 x  \frac{4}{3}\pir^{3}

⇒ r = 4.68 cm

In an experiment, 4.14 g of phosphorus combined with chlorine to produce 27.8 g of a white solid compound. what is the empirical
Umnica [9.8K]

Grams of Phosphorus = 4.14 grams
Grams of white compound = 27.8 grams
Grams of Chlorine would be = 27.8 - 4.14 = 23.66 grams
 Calculating moles which would be grams / molar mass
 Molar mass of P = 30.97 grams / moles; Molar mass of Cl = 35.45 grams / moles
 Moles of Phosphorus = 4.14 grams / 30.97 grams / moles = 0.1337 moles
 Moles of Chlorine = 23.66 grams / 35.45 grams / moles = 0.6674 moles
 Calculating the ratios by dividing with the small entity
 P = 0.1337 moles / 0.1337 moles = 1
 Cl = 0.6674 moles / 0.1337 moles = 5
So the empirical formula would be PCl5
