The question seems incomplete, below is the complete question asked:

Suppose you are walking home after school. the distance from school to your home is five kilometers. on foot, you can get home in 25 minutes. however, if you rode a bicycle, you could get home in 10 minutes. what is your average speed while walking? what is your average speed while bicycling? how much faster you travel on your bicycle?

Answer:

a. My speed travelling on foot is 3.33m/s

b. My speed riding a bicycle is 8.33m/s

c. I travelled 5 metres per second faster while riding a bicycle than when travelling on foot

Explanation:

Let us first convert the distance covered or travelled on foot to metres and the time for the travel to seconds.

Since 1000m make 1 kilometre then 5km = 1000 × 5 = 5000m. The time spent when travelling on foot is 25 minutes, we will then convert it to seconds. If 60 seconds make one minute, then 25 minutes = 60 × 25

= 1,500 seconds.

a. The formula for calculating speed is:

distance/time

speed of the foot travel is then:

5000/1,500

= 3.33m/s (metres per second)

b. Again, if you cover the same distance with a bicycle, you can get home earlier (That is in 10 minutes). We will then convert this time to seconds:

If 60 seconds make 1 minute, the 10 minutes is

60 × 10 = 600 seconds.

The speed while travelling with the bicycle is then:

5000m/600sec

= 8.33m/s

c. In order to calculate how much faster I travelled on a bicycle, I will simply subtract the speed of the foot travel from my speed while travelling with bicycle.

= 8.33m/s - 3.33m/s

= 5m/s

Therefore, I travelled 5 metres per second faster with a bicycle than when I travelled on foot.

Answer:

a) 3.33m/s b) 8.33m/s c) 15minutes faster

Explanation:

The question is incomplete. This is the complete question;

Speed is the defined as Distance covered by a body in a specified time. Mathematically;

Speed = Distance/Time

- If the distance from school to home is 5km and time taken to get home on foot is 25minutes, average speed while walking will be calculated as;

Average speed while walking = distance covered on foot/time taken on foot

Average speed while walking = 5km/25mins = 0.2km/min

Covering to m/s gives;

(0.2×1000)m/(1×60)secs

= (200/60)m/s

= 3.33m/s

- average speed while bicycling = distance covered on bicycle/time taken on bicycle

Distance from school to home will not change i.e 5km = 5000m

Time taken on bicycle home = 10mins = 10×60 = 600seconds

average speed while bicycling = 5000/600

average speed while bicycling = 8.33m/s

- to calculate how much faster traveled by bicycle, we will subtract time taken on foot from time taken by bicycle to have;

25min - 10mins

= 15minutes

This means he travels 15minutes faster on bicycle compare to foot

A person's _____________ will change if they move from the Earth to the moon.
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

1. A person's weight will change if they move from the Earth to the moon.

In fact, the weight of a person is given by:

W=mg

where m is the mass of the person and g is the gravitational acceleration. The mass of the person, m, is the same on the Earth and on the moon, but the value of g is different on the Moon (about 1/6 of the Earth's value), so the weight also changes.

2. An astronaut is launched into space. The mass of the astronaut did not change. This is measured in Kg.

The mass of an object (or of a person, as in this case) is an intrinsec property of the object, that depends on the amount of matter inside the object: therefore, this quantity does not depend on the location of the object, so it is the same on the Earth, on the Moon and in space.

3. What is the weight of a ring tailed lemur that has a mass of 10 kg? -98 N

The weight of the lemur is given by:

W=mg

where m=10 kg is the lemur's mass and g=-9.8 m/s^2 is the gravitational acceleration. Using these numbers, we find

W=(10 kg)(-9.8 m/s^2)=-98 N

and the negative sign simply means that the direction of the weight is downward.

4. What is the mass of the lemur from the previous question if it was on the International Space Station? 10 kg

As we said in question 1), the mass of an object does not depend on the location, so the mass of the lemur is still 10 kg, as in the previous exercise.

5. A rocket being thrust upward as the force of the fuel being burned pushes downward is an example of which of Newton's laws? Third's Newton Law

Third's Newton Law states that:

"When an object A exerts a force on an object B, then object B exerts an equal and opposite force on object A".

Applied to this case, the two objects are the fuel and the rocket. The fuel is pushed backward by the rocket, so the fuel exerts an equal and opposite force on the rocket, which then moves forward.

6. When a cannon is fired, the projectile moves forward. According to Newton's 3rd law, the cannon will want to travel backward.

Third's Newton Law states that:

"When an object A exerts a force on an object B, then object B exerts an equal and opposite force on object A".

Applied to this case, the two objects are the cannon and the projectile.The projectile is pushed forward by the cannon, so the projectile exerts an equal and opposite force on the cannon, which moves backward.

7. An object has a weight of 21,532 N on Earth. What is the mass of the object? 2,197 kg

The weight of the object is given by: W=mg

If we re-arrange the formula and we use W=21,532 N, we can find the mass of the object:

m=\frac{W}{g}=\frac{21,532 N}{9.8 m/s^2}=2,197 kg

8. What is the mass of the object from the previous question if we put it on the moon? The force of gravity on the moon is 1.62 m/s2. 2,197 kg

As we said in question 4), the mass of an object does not change if we move it to another location, so its mass is still 2,197 kg.

9. How much force is exerted if a 250 kg object has an acceleration of 750 m/s2 ? 187,500 N

The force exerted on the object is given by Newton's second law:

F=ma

where F is the force, m=250 kg is the mass and a=750 m/s^2 is the acceleration. By using these numbers, we find

F=(250 kg)(750 m/s^2)=187,500 N

10. A resting soccer ball moving after it is kicked is an example of which of Newton's laws? Newton's second law

Newton's second law states that when an object is acted upon unbalanced force, the object has an acceleration, given by the law

F=ma

So, in this case, the ball is kicked and so an unbalanced force is applied to it, and for this reason the ball has an acceleration (in fact, it starts from rest, but then its velocity increases since it starts moving).

A machine has a mechanical advantage of 4.5. What force is put out by the machine if the force applied to the machine is 800 N?
Ghella [55]

If the machine's mechanical advantage is 4.5, that means that

Output force = (4.5) x (Input force) .

We know the input force, and we need to find the output force. Rather than wander around the room looking at the floor while our hair smolders, let's try putting the numbers we know into the equation I wrote up there. OK ?

Output force = (4.5) x (Input force)

Output force = (4.5) x (800 N)

Now dooda multiplication:

Output force = 3,600 N .

That's exactly what the question asked for. So we're done !

A 1 800-kg pile driver is used to drive a steel I-beam into the ground. The pile driver falls 4.60 m before coming into contact
N76 [4]

Answer:

F = 614913.88 N

Explanation:

We are given;

Mass of pile driver; m = 1800 kg

Height of fall of pole driver; h = 4.6 m

Depth driven into beam; d = 13.6 cm = 0.136 m

Now, from energy equations and applying to this question, we can write that;

Workdone = Change in potential energy

Formula for workdone is; W = F × d

While the average potential energy here is; W = mg(h + d)

Thus;

Fd = mg(h + d)

Where F is the average force exerted by the beam on the pile driver while in bringing it to rest.

Making F the subject, we have;

F = mg(h + d)/d

F = 1800 × 9.81 × (4.6 + 0.136)/0.136

F = 614913.88 N

James observes that the Polaris star in the northern hemisphere does not rise and set in the sky. His teacher tells him that thi
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer:

Just above the pole (top-most red circle)

Explanation:

Polaris is used to identify North direction. Since, the Earth rotates on its axis which is along North-south, Polaris never seems to rise and set from the Northern hemisphere. This is because Polaris lies above north pole. Thus, in the given diagram, Polaris is above the North pole on the axis represented by top-most red circle.
