A 3.45-kg centrifuge takes 100 s to spin up from rest to its final angular speed with constant angular acceleration. A point loc

ated 8.00 cm from the axis of rotation of the centrifuge moves with a speed of 150 m/s when the centrifuge is at full speed.
(a) What is the angular acceleration (in rad/s^2) of the centrifuge as it spins up?
(b) How many revolutions does the centrifuge make as it goes from rest to its final angular speed?

Answer:

(a) 18.75 rad/s²

(b) 14920.78 rev

Explanation:

(a)

First we find the acceleration of the centrifuge using,

a = (v-u)/t......................... Equation 1

Where v = final velocity, u = initial velocity, t = time.

Given: v = 150 m/s,  u = 0 m/s ( from rest), t = 100 s

Substitute into equation 1

a = (150-0)/100

a = 1.5 m/s²

Secondly we calculate for the angular acceleration using

α = a/r..................... Equation 2

Where α = angular acceleration, r = radius of the centrifuge

Given: a = 1.5 m/s², r = 8 cm = 0.08 m

substitute into equation 2

α = 1.5/0.08

α = 18.75 rad/s²

(b)

Using,

Ф = (ω'+ω).t/2........................... Equation 3

Where Ф = number of revolution of the centrifuge, ω' = initial angular velocity, ω = Final angular velocity.

But,

ω = v/r and ω' = u/r

therefore,

Ф = (u/r+v/r).t/2

where u = 0 m/s (at rest),  = 150 m/s, r = 0.08 m, t = 100 s

Ф = [(0/0.08)+(150/0.08)].100/2

Ф = 93750 rad

If,

1 rad = 0.159155 rev,

Ф = (93750×0.159155) rev

Ф = 14920.78 rev

A train that has wheels with a diameter of 91.44 cm (36 inches used for 100 ton capacity cars) slows down from 82.5 km/h to 32.5
podryga [215]

Answer:

The answer is below

Explanation:

The initial velocity = u = 82.5 km/h = 22.92 m/s, the final velocity = 32.5 km/h = 9.03 m/s, diameter = 91.55 cm = 0.9144 cm

radius (r) = diameter / 2 = 0.9144 / 2= 0.4572 m

a) Initial angular velocity (\omega_o) = u /r = 22.92 / 0.4572 = 50.13 rad/s, final velocity  (ω) = v / r = 9.03 / 0.4592 = 19.67 rad / s

θ = 95 rev * 2πr = 95 * 2π * 0.4572= 272.9 rad

angular acceleration (α) is:

\omega^2=\omega_o^2+2\alpha \theta\\\\19.67^2-50.13^2=2\alpha(272.9)\\\\19.67^2=50.13^2+2\alpha(272.9)\\\\2\alpha(272.9)=-2126.108\\\\\alpha=-3.89\ rad/s^2\\\\

b)

\omega=\omega_o+\alpha t\\\\19.67=50.13+(-3.89t)\\\\3.89t=50.13-19..67\\\\3.89t=30.46\\\\t=7.83\ s

c) θ = 95 rev * 2πr = 95 * 2π * 0.4572= 272.9 rad

a) When it stops, the final angular velocity is 0. Hence:

\omega^2=\omega_o^2+2\alpha \theta\\\\0=50.13^2+2(-3.89)\theta\\\\2(3.89)\theta=50.13^2\\\\2(3.89)\theta=2513\\\\\theta=323\ rad\\\\revolutions=\frac{\theta}{2\pi r}=\frac{323}{2\pi(0.4572)}  =112.4\ rev

θ = 323 rad

Kelli weighs 425 N, and she is sitting on a playground swing that hangs 0.36 m above the ground. Her mom pulls the swing back an
kodGreya [7K]

Answer:

V = 3.54 m/s

Explanation:

Using the conservation of energy:

E_i = E_f

so:

wh = \frac{1}{2}mV^2

where w is te weigh of kelly, h the distance that kelly decends, m is the mass of kelly and V the velocity in the lowest position.

So, the mass of kelly is:

m = 425N/9.8 = 43.36 Kg

and h is:

h = 1m-0.36m =0.64m

then, replacing values, we get:

(425N)(0.64m) = \frac{1}{2}(43.36kg)v^2

Solving for v:

V = 3.54 m/s
