A 45.0-kg woman stands up in a 69.0-kg canoe that is 5.00 m long. She walks from a point 1.00m from one end to a point 1.00 m fr

om the other end. If you ignore resistance to the motion of the canoe in the water, how far does the center of the canoe move during this process? (or the left end, or the right end, whichever point in the canoer is easier for you to think of)

Answer:

The center of the canoe is displaced 1.18m in the opposite direction to the movement of the woman.

Explanation:

Let's assume the woman is on the left of the canoe and that the origin of our system is in the middle of the canoe.

The position of the center of gravity of the whole system remains in the same position, so:

m_{c}*r_{oc}+m_{w}*r_{ow}=m_{c}*r_{fc}+m_{w}*r_{fw}

Since our origin is in the middle of the canoe, all of the positions become:

r_{oc}=0

r_{ow}=-(2.5-1)=-1.5

r_{fc}=-X (It is negative, assuming that the canoe will move to the left).

r_{fw}=-X+(2.5-1)=-X+1.5

Being X the displacement we want to find.

Replacing all of these values, we get:

69*0+45*(-1.5)=69*(-X)+45*(-X+1.5)

Solving for X:

X=1.18m Since the result is positive, we conclude that our assumption was correct.

A photograph is taken by letting light fall on a light-sensitive medium, which then records the image onto that medium. True or
Jet001 [13]

Answer;

The above statement is true.

-A photograph is taken by letting light fall on a light-sensitive medium, which then records the image onto that medium.

Explanation;

-A photograph is created when light is allowed to fall on a light-sensitive medium. The pattern of light creates an image that is recorded by the photographic device. How light or dark a photograph is depends on how much light was allowed to fall on the light-sensitive medium.

-A camera is a light-tight box that contains a light-sensitive material or device and a way of letting in a desired amount of light at particular times to create an image on the light-sensitive material.

A 65.0 kg diver is 4.90 m above the water, falling at speed of 6.40 m/s. Calculate her kinetic energy as she hits the water. (Ne
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

4452.5 J.

Explanation:

The diver have both kinetic and potential energy.

Ek = 1/2mv² ................. Equation 1

Where Ek = Kinetic Energy of the diver, m = mass of the diver, v = velocity of the diver.

Given: m = 65 kg, v = 6.4 m/s.

Substitute into equation 1

Ek = 1/2(65)(6.4²)

Ek = 1331.2 J.

Also,

Ep = mgh ............................ Equation 2

Where Ep = Potential energy of the diver when its above the water, h = height of the diver above the water, g = acceleration due to gravity.

Given: m = 65 kg, h = 4.9 m, g = 9.8 m/s²

Substitute into equation 2.

Ep = 65(4.9)(9.8)

Ep = 3121.3 J.

Note: When she hits the water, the potential energy is converted to kinetic energy.

E = Ek+Ep

Where E = Kinetic energy of the diver when she hits the water.

E = 1331.2+3121.3

E = 4452.5 J.
