<span>Conduction of electricity takes place when there are ions in the medium. The pure water has no ions to conduct electricity. When it has dissolved ions it will conduct electricity. In the case of dry soil it is very resistive to electricity. But when wet it has ions in water molecules among the soil particles. Then the soil becomes a conductor of electricity.</span>

In dry soil there is electrolyte (<span>substance that produces an </span>electrically<span> when dissolved in a polar solvent), but that electrolyte is not dissolved, to produce electricity free ions are needed. In pure water there is a very small amount of ions (H</span>⁺ and OH⁻). In wet soil d<span>issolved electrolyte separates into </span>cations<span> and </span>anions, <span>movement of anions and cations in opposite directions make current.</span>

Which of the following solutions would have [Fe3+] = 0.020 M?
Shalnov [3]

Answer:

None of the given options

Explanation:

Let's go case by case:

A. No matter the volume, the concentration of Fe(NO₃)₃ (and thus of [Fe³⁺] as well) is 0.050 M.

B. We can calculate the moles of Fe₂(SO₄)₃:

  • 0.020 M * 0.80 L = 0.016 mol Fe₂(SO₄)₃

Given that there are two Fe⁺³ moles per Fe₂(SO₄)₃ mol, in the solution we have 0.032 moles of Fe⁺³. With that information in mind we <u>can calculate [Fe⁺³]</u>:

  • 0.032 mol Fe⁺³ / 0.80 L = 0.040 M

C. Analog to case A., the molar concentration of Fe⁺³ is 0.040 M.

D. Similar to cases A and C., [Fe⁺³] = 0.010 M.

Thus none of the given options would have [Fe⁺³] = 0.020 M.

Which of the following best describes a metal? Brittle, shiny, and solid Brittle, dull, and low density Malleable, shiny, and ab
yanalaym [24]

Answer : The correct option is, Malleable, shiny, and able to conduct heat or electricity.

Explanation:

Metals : Metals are the elements which can easily loose electrons and forms cations.

Properties of metals :

  • They are lustrous (shine).
  • They are malleable and ductile (flexible).
  • They conduct heat and electricity.
  • The metallic oxides are basic in nature.
  • They form cations in an aqueous solution.

Non-metals : Non-metals are the elements which can easily gain electrons and form an anion.

Properties of non-metals :

  • They are non-lustrous.
  • They are brittle and hard in nature.
  • They do not conduct heat and electricity.
  • The non-metallic oxides are acidic in nature.
  • They form anions in an aqueous solution.

Hence, from the given options the correct option for metal is, Malleable, shiny, and able to conduct heat or electricity.

How mant grams are there in 7.15 x 10^24 molecules of water?
worty [1.4K]

Answer:

B. 214.02

Explanation:

1 mol of water weighs 18.015 gm and contains 6.023 × 10²³ molecules

From question, We have 7.15 × 10²⁴ molecules

Dividing we get (7.15 × 10 ²⁴) ÷ ( 6.023 × 10²³) = 11.871 molecules

Now, Weight of water = 11.871 × 18.015 = 213.85 which is nearer to option B

Suppose a cobalt atom in the oxidation state formed a complex with two bromide anions and four ammonia molecules. Write the chem
Katena32 [7]

Complete Question:

Suppose a cobalt atom in the +3 oxidation state formed a complex with two bromide (Br-) anions and four ammonia (NH3) molecules. write the chemical formula of this complex.

Answer:

[Co(NH₃)₄]⁺Br₂

Explanation:

The cobalt atom with +3 oxidation is represented as Co⁺³, and if it's bonded to two bromide ions, and four ammonia molecules. The molecules that are bonded to the metal atom (Co) are called complexing agents.

In the representation, we first put the molecules that surround the metal atom, forming an anion with the oxidation of the metal:

[Co(NH₃)₄]⁺³

Then, the ions are put in the formula. Because there are two bromides ion, each one with 1 minus charge, only 2 plus charged will be neutralized, and the complex will be:

[Co(NH₃)₄]⁺Br₂
