Using a 300 MHz NMR instrument:

Chemistry

Answer:

a. 750Hz, b. 4.0ppm, c. 600Hz

Explanation:

The Downfield Shift (Hz) is given by the formula

Downfield Shift (Hz) = Chemical Shift (ppm) x Spectrometer Frequency (Hz)

Using the above formula we can solve all three parts easily

a. fspec = 300 MHz, Chem. Shift = 2.5ppm, 1MHz = 10⁶ Hz, 1ppm (parts per million) = 10⁻⁶

Downfield Shift (Hz) = 2.5ppm x 300MHz x (1Hz/10⁶MHz) x (10⁻⁶/1ppm)

Downfield Shift = 750 Hz

The signal is at 750Hz Downfield from TMS

b. Downfield Shift = 1200 Hz, Chemical Shift = ?

Chemical Shift = Downfield shift/Spectrometer Frequency

Chemical Shift = (1200Hz/300MHz) x (1ppm/10⁻⁶) = 4.0 ppm

The signal comes at 4.0 ppm

c. Separation of 2ppm, Downfield Shift = ?

Downfield Shift (Hz) = 2(ppm) x 300 (MHz) x (1Hz/10⁶MHz) x (10⁻⁶/1ppm) = 600 Hz

The two peaks are separated by 600Hz

Atmospheric pressure at sea level is equal to a column of 760 mm Hg. Oxygen makes up 21 percent of the atmosphere by volume. The
Neporo4naja [7]

<u>Answer:</u> The partial pressure of oxygen is 160 mmHg

<u>Explanation:</u>

We are given:

Percent of oxygen in air = 21 %

Mole fraction of oxygen in air = \frac{21}{100}=0.21

To calculate the partial pressure of oxygen, we use the equation given by Raoult's law, which is:

p_{O_2}=p_T\times \chi_{O_2}

where,

p_{O_2} = partial pressure of oxygen = ?

p_T = total pressure of air = 760 mmHg

\chi_{O_2} = mole fraction of oxygen = 0.21

Putting values in above equation, we get:

p_{O_2}=760mmHg\times 0.21\\\\p_{O_2}=160mmHg

Hence, the partial pressure of oxygen is 160 mmHg

Octanol is slightly soluble in water, and water is very soluble in octanol. why is it important to presaturate octanol with wate
notsponge [240]

N-Octanol and water are chosen because the connection between a substance's hydrophilicity and lipophilicity is measured by K_{OW} (n-Octanol/Water partition coefficient). When a chemical is more dissolves in fat-like solvents like n-octanol, the value is more significant than one,  when it's more dissolved in water, the value is lower.

What is the partition coefficient?

  • The partition coefficient for the two-phase network comprising n-octanol and water is known as the K_{OW} value. N-Octanol-Water Partition Ratio is another name for it.
  • The connection between a substance's hydrophilicity (its ability to dissolve in water) and lipophilicity (its ability to dissolve in fat) is measured by K_{OW}. The value is bigger if a drug is more accessible in fat-like liquids like n-octanol and less if a compound seems more water-soluble.
  • Owing to linkage or fragmentation, substances that are involved in the octanol-water combination as multiple synthetic entities are each given a unique K_{OW} ratio.

So, N-Octanol is chosen because it has a carbon/oxygen ratio that is comparable to that of lipids and because it shows both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties. N-octanol, therefore, resembles the makeup and characteristics of cells and other living things.
