A very tall building has a height H0 on a cool spring day when the temperature is T0. You decide to use the building as a sort o

f giant thermometer on a hot summer day by carefully measuring its height. Suppose you do this and discover that the building is a length h taller than it was on the cool spring day where h is much much less than H0. Assume the entire frame of the building is made of steel, which has a coefficient of linear expansion αsteel.
Required:
What is the temperature, assuming that the building is in thermal equilibrium with the air and that its entire frame is made of steel?

Answer:

The temperature is   T  =  \frac{h}{H_O \alpha_{steel} }  + T_O

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

      The height on a cool spring day is H_O

      The temperature on a cool spring day is  T_O

      The difference in height between a cool spring day and a summer day  is     h

     The coefficient of static friction is \alpha _{steel}

The mathematical relation for the linear expansion of the steel buiding is represented as

               h  =  H_o \alpha_{steel}  [T-T_O]

Where T is the temperature of the steel during summer

Now making T the subject we have

                T  =  \frac{h}{H_O \alpha_{steel} }  + T_O

A block is released from rest, at a height h, and allowed to slide down an inclined plane. There is friction on the plane. At th
GREYUIT [131]

Here the block has two work done on it

1. Work done by gravity

2. Work done by friction force

So here it start from height "h" and then again raise to height hA after compressing the spring

So work done by the gravity is given as

W_g = m_A g(h - h_A)

Now work done by the friction force is to be calculated by finding total path length because friction force is a non conservative force and its work depends on total path

W_f = -(\mu m_A g cos\theta)(\frac{h}{sin\theta} + \frac{h_A}{sin\theta})

W_f = -\mu m_A g cot\theta(h + h_A)

Total work done on it

W = m_A g(h - h_A) - \mu m_A g cot\theta(h + h_A)

So answer will be

None of these

An astronaut rides in a circular training accelerator at 16 m/s. If the radius of the accelerator is 8.0 meters, what is his cen
iren [92.7K]

Answer:

a=32\ m/s^2

Explanation:

Given that,

The velocity of an astronaut in a circular path, v = 16 m/s

The radius of the accelerator, r = 8 m

We need to find his centripetal acceleration. The formula that is used to find the centripetal acceleration is given by :

a=\dfrac{v^2}{r}\\\\a=\dfrac{(16)^2}{8}\\\\a=32\ m/s^2

So, the required centripetal acceleration is 32\ m/s^2.
