A light ray incident from medium 1 to medium 2, where n1>n2. When the incident angle exceed the critical angle ac, the refrac

ted angle exceed 90o, which means no light transmitted into medium 2. This is known as the total internal reflection. What is the critical angle "ac" (ac<90 degree) for total internal reflection to occur

Answer:

The critical angle is  ac =sin^{-1}\frac{n_2}{n_1}

Explanation:

  Snell's law is mathematically represented as

                    n_1 sin \theta_1 = n_2 sin \theta_2

Where n_1 is the refractive index of medium 1

           n_2 is the refractive index of medium 2

Now substituting 90^o for \theta_2 and ac which denotes the critical angle for \theta_1

             n_1 sin (ac) = n_2 \ sin(90)

Making ac the subject

                 ac =sin^{-1}\frac{n_2}{n_1}

From the question we are told that n_1 > n_2

 The is implies that ac < 90

            since  \frac{n_2}{n_1} < 1

Critical angle is that angle of incidence that result to a 90 degree angle of refraction

A child pushes a 100 kg refrigerator with a force of 50 N, but the refrigerator does not move. Suppose the coefficient of static
faust18 [17]

Answer:

50 N

Explanation:

Since the refrigerator doesn’t move, that means the force of friction equals the amount of force the child exerts on the fridge. If the friction force were greater than the force by the child, the fridge would start accelerating towards the child. If it were less than the force the child exerted, the fridge would start accelerating away from the child. Therefore, the net force must be 0, in this case, the friction force is equal to the force the child exerted, for it to stay at rest (as Newton’s First Law stated).

I hope this helps! :)

you and your friend left a bus terminal at the same time and traveled in opposite directions. Your bus was in heavy traffic and
STALIN [3.7K]

Answer:

The rate at which bus 1 is going is 55 mph

The rate at which bus 1 is going is 35 mph

Explanation:

As per the question:

Suppose, the distance traveled by Bus 1 be 'd' at the rate R after a time, t = 3h

Thus

Suppose, the distance traveled by Bus 1 be 'd'' at the rate, R'20 mph slower than the rate of Bus 1 after the same time.

R' = R - 20

The distance is given as the product of rate and time:

d = Rt         (1)

Now, the total distance given is 270 miles:

d + d' = 270

Now, using eqn (1):

Rt + R't = 270

3(R + R - 20) = 270

6R = 270 + 60

R = 55 mph

R' = R - 20 = 55 - 20 = 35 mph
