Answer:

1) B. 4.12 times 10^5 s^-1

2) B. frequency-v

3) C. 1.18 times 10^15 s^-1

4) B. 4.39 times 10^-19 J

5) B. Energy is absorbed

6) C. 3

7) 1s^2  2s^2  2p^6  3s^2  3p^6  4s^2  3d^10  4p^6  5s^2  4d^10  5p^6     6s^2

Explanation:

1)

The wavelength is inversely proportional to the frequency. Thus, the smallest frequency shall correspond to the longest wavelength. Thus, the correct answer is B. 4.12 times 10^5 s^-1

2)

B. frequency-v are wrongly paired because frequency is represented by f. Thus, correct pair will be frequency-f.

3)

The relationship between wavelength (λ) and frequency (f) is:

c = fλ

f = c/λ

where, c = speed of light = 3 x 10^8 m/s

f = (3x10^8 m/s) / (254 x 10^-9 m)

f = 1.18 x 10^15 s^-1

Thus, the correct option is C. 1.18 times 10^15 s^-1.

4)

The energy of photon is given as:

E = hc/λ

where, c = speed of light = 3 x 10^8 m/s

            h = Plank's Constant = 6.625 x 10^-34 J.s

E = (6.625 x 10^-34 J.s)(3 x 10^8 m/s) / (453 x 10^-9 m)

E = 4.39 x 10^-19 J

Thus, the correct option is B. 4.39 times 10^-19 J.

5)

Since, the higher energy levels away from nucleus have higher energies. So, in order to move an electron from lower to higher or distant energy level, it must absorb energy from external source. So, the correct option is B. Energy is absorbed.

6)

The P-Sub-level has three orbitals, each having two electrons. Thus, P-Sub-Level accommodates total of 6 electrons. The correct option is C. 3

7)

The electronic configuration of barium atom is:

1s^2  2s^2  2p^6  3s^2  3p^6  4s^2  3d^10  4p^6  5s^2  4d^10  5p^6  6s^2

Hello, a little help please guys:( Explain how the series of experiments performed by Crookes, Thomson, Rutherford, and Chadwick
White raven [17]
I did some investigation and summarized the process and made a clearer explanation so those who are confused can imagine the process better :) A scientific theory attempts to explain and describe why things happen. Hypotheses are formed and experiments are done to validate or toss the hypothesis based on the data collected. The Atomic Theory has gone through lots of refining as a scientific theory. For instance, William Crookes conduced an experiment with cathode ray tubes powered by electricity that glowed when powered. Crookes placed an object in between the positive and negative electrode and concluded that the shadow made on the positive side was small particles of matter traveling from the negative side. But more evidence was needed so, later on, J.J. Thomson continued Crookes experiment. He tested what would happen if a negative or positive charged rod was placed along the ray tubes and if it would differ if a different element was used as the negative electrode. Thomson found out that the beam had negatively charged particles and that even if the negative electrode is substituted, the glow is still present, meaning that all elements also had the small negative particles. These particles(now known as electrons) were smaller than the atom and were added to the model of the atom dispersed throughout the neutrally charged atom inside its positive sphere. Now came along Rutherford hoping to support Thomsons model by firing positively charged particles at a thin gold foil thinking it would go straight through the foil, but instead it evenly distributed as they went through the foil, concluding that atoms have a small, dense nucleus(containing positive protons and most of the mass of the atom) that deflected the particles passing through. This was a drastic change in the model now knowing that 1 proton has 2000 times the mass of an electron, but its positive charge cancels the negative electron. After WW1, Chadwick and others were seeing that sometimes the mass of the atom was greater than the mass of the protons and the number of protons was less than the mass of the atom. So it was thought that there were extra electrons and protons adding mass in the nucleus but cancelling their charges, but Rutherford proposed a particle with mass but no charge and called it a neutron; made of paired protons and electrons. But scientists kept studying atoms since there was no evidence of the neutron. Chadwick repeated these experiments though, in hopes to find the neutron and succeeded in 1932, finding it in the nucleus with a close mass to the proton. Thanks to these experiments for refining a scientific theory, we now have a clearer model of the atom.

What nuclide undergoes fission to form molybdenum-103, atomic number 42, tin-131, atomic number 50, and two neutrons?
FrozenT [24]

Answer:

The correct answer is Pu, 234.

Explanation:

In the given case, let us consider the reactant as X. Now the mass number (balanced) on both the sides will be,

Mass of X = Mass of Molybdenum + Mass of Tin + Mass of neutrons

M = 1 * 103 + 1 * 131 + 2 * 0

M = 234

Now the atomic number (balanced) on both the sides,

Atomic number of X = Atomic number of Molybdenum + Atomic number of Tin + Atomic number of neutrons

A = 1*42 + 1*50 + 2*1

A = 94

The atomic number 94 is for the element Plutonium, whose symbol is Pu. Thus, the reactant is 234-Pu.
