Answer:

The answer is

X: Converts mass into energy

Y: Is controlled by neutron absorption

Explanation:

To maintain a sustained controlled nuclear reaction (nuclear fission), for every 2 or 3 neutrons released, only one must be allowed to strike another uranium nucleus. If this ratio is less than one then the reaction will die out; if it is greater than one it will grow uncontrolled (an atomic explosion). A neutron absorbing element must be present to control the amount of free neutrons in the reaction space. Therefore, nuclear fission is controlled by neutron absorption.

Nuclear fission and fusion both converts mass to energy.

In both reactions total mass of material decreases but the energy comes out from atoms.

A car with a mass of 850kg is moving at a speed of 72km/h when colliding with a concrete wall until it stops. After the collisio
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Answer:

Explanation:

The vehicle is experiencing a large force created by the concrete wall.

Equation

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2*a * d

Givens

vf = 0   The car eventually does stop.

vi = 72 km/hr * [ 1000 m/  km] * [1 hour / 3600 seconds]

vi = 20 meters / second

a = ?

m = 850 kg

Solution

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2a*d

0 = 20 m/s + 2* 2 *a

-20 m/s = 4a

-20/4 =   a

a = - 5 m/s^2   The minus sign tells you the vehicle is slowing down. It sure should be.

Force = m * a

F = - 850 * (-5)

F =  - 4250 N

The car provides a 4250 N force on it going east to west and a 4250 N force going from west to east provided by the concrete wall.

Batman (mass = 96.1 kg) jumps straight down from a bridge into a boat (mass = 458 kg) in which a criminal is fleeing. The veloci
MariettaO [177]

Answer:

The velocity of the boat after the batman lands in it is +9.26 m/s

Explanation:

Applying the law of conservation of momentum,

Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision.

Note: The collision between the Batman and the boat is an inelastic collision.

m'u'+mu = V(m+m').................... Equation 1

Where m' = mass of the Batman, u' = initial velcoity of the batman, m = mass of the boat, u = initial velocity of the boat, V = common velocity.

make V the subject of equation 1

V = (m'u'+mu)/(m+m')............... Equation 2

Given: m' = 96.1 kg, u' = 0 m/s, m = 458 kg, u = +11.3 m/s.

Substitute these values into equation 2

V = [(96.1×0)+(458×11.2)]/(96.1+458)

V = 5129.6/554.1

V = +9.26 m/s

To have a change in acceleration there has to be a change in velocity.
tresset_1 [31]

Answer: Compared to displacement and velocity, acceleration is like the angry, fire-breathing dragon of motion variables. It can be violent; some people are scared of it; and if it's big, it forces you to take notice. That feeling you get when you're sitting in a plane during take-off, or slamming on the brakes in a car, or turning a corner at a high speed in a go kart are all situations where you are accelerating.
