Place the two thermometers outdoors in different locations. Place one in direct sunlight and the other in shade. Make sure that

the thermometers are in a secure location so they will not fall or blow away. Do you think that there will be a difference in temperature between these two locations over a period of one week? Write down your prediction.

Yes

Explanation:

There would be a difference in temperature between the two places over the time interval.

What is temperature?

Temperature is the degree of hotness or coldness of a body. It is measured  using a thermometer as described in the set up.

Temperature changes is a result of heat transfer.

The sun is the ultimate source of energy for the earth.

It transfers heat to the earth by radiation.

Under a shade, the tree leaves or shed will cut off the radiation preventing it from reaching the surface. This place will be cool and at a lower temperature than expected.

The thermometer furnished with direct sunlight will have a higher temperature. As the radiation from sun hits the surface, it causes it to warm up and increase in temperature. This will cause the thermometer's temperature to also rise.

A spherical asteroid of average density would have a mass of 8.7×1013kg if its radius were 2.0 km.A)If you and your spacesuit ha
WITCHER [35]

A) 0.189 N

The weight of the person on the asteroid is equal to the gravitational force exerted by the asteroid on the person, at a location on the surface of the asteroid:

F=\frac{GMm}{R^2}

where

G is the gravitational constant

8.7×10^13 kg is the mass of the asteroid

m = 130 kg is the mass of the man

R = 2.0 km = 2000 m is the radius of the asteroid

Substituting into the equation, we find

F=\frac{(6.67\cdot 10^{-11})(8.7\cdot 10^{13} kg)(130 kg)}{(2000 m)^2}0.189 N=

B) 2.41 m/s

In order to orbit just above the surface of the asteroid (r=R), the centripetal force that keeps the astronaut in orbit must be equal to the gravitational force acting on the astronaut:

\frac{GMm}{R^2}=\frac{mv^2}{R}

where

v is the speed of the astronaut

Solving the formula for v, we find the minimum speed at which the astronaut should launch himself and then orbit the asteroid just above the surface:

v=\sqrt{\frac{2GM}{R}}=\sqrt{\frac{2(6.67\cdot 10^{-11})(8.7\cdot 10^{13} kg)}{2000 m}}=2.41 m/s

You are given a vector in the xy plane that has a magnitude of 90.0 units and a y component of -61.0 units. A) Assuming the x co
kvasek [131]

Answer:

A) magnitude = sqrrt(147.1^2 + 61^2) = 159.2 units

B)22.5° (clockwise form -ve X axis)

Explanation:

given vector = V1 = x i - 60 j

magnitude of V1 = 90

x - component can be found out by resultant formula

90^2 = x^2 + (-60)^2

x = 67.08 = 67.1 units (3sf)

FOR THE VECTOR 80 UNITS IN -VE X DIRECTION

The X component is -80-------(1)

The Y component is 0 ---------(2)

<u>For the x- component of new added vector:</u>

(1)----------- x + 67.1 = -80

x = -147.1 = -147.1

<u>For the y- component of new added vector:</u>

<u>(</u>2)---------- y - 61  = 0

y = 61.0 (3sf)

the new added vector is  = -147.1 i + 61 j

magnitude = sqrrt(147.1^2 + 61^2) = 159.2 units

direction = arctan (61 / 147.1)

               = 22.5° (clockwise form -ve X axis)

Calculate a rate of cooling down of air from 80 C to 5C Show calculation. Give an answer in cubic meters per minute and cfm.
antoniya [11.8K]

Explanation:

Given that,

Rate of cooling of air

Initial temperature= 80°C

Final temperature = 5°C

We need to calculate

Using newton's law of cooling

\dfrac{dT}{dt}=c(T-T_{0})

\dfrac{dT}{dt}=c(\dfrac{T_{1}+T_{2}}{2}-T_{0})

Where, dT=T_{1}-T_{2}

Here, T =\dfrac{T_{1}+T_{2}}{2}

T_{0} = 25°C  (surrounding temperature)

dt = 1 minute

\dfrac{dT}{dt}=c(\dfrac{T_{1}+T_{2}}{2}-T_{0})

Put the value into the formula

\dfrac{80-5}{1}=c(\dfrac{85}{2}-25)

c=\dfrac{75}{17.5}

c=4.285\ cubic\ meter/minute

Hence, This is the required answer.
