Dolphins of the open ocean are classified as Type II Odontocetes (toothed whales). These animals use ultrasonic "clicks" with a

frequency of about 55.3 kHz to navigate and find prey.
(A) Suppose a dolphin sends out a series of high-pitched clicks that are reflected back from the bottom of the ocean 86 m below. How much time elapses before the dolphin hears the echoes of the clicks? (The speed of sound in seawater is approximately 1530 m/s.)
answer in seconds
(B) What is the wavelength of 55.3 kHz sound in the ocean?
answer in mm

Answer:

Part a)

\Delta t = 0.112 s

Part b)

\lambda = 27.7 mm

Explanation:

Part a)

As we know that the sound will go to the bottom of the sea and then come back to the dolphin

so here total distance moved by the whale is given as

d = 86 + 86

d = 172 m[tex]now the time to reach the sound back to initial position is given as[tex]\Delta t = \frac{d}{v}

\Delta t = \frac{172}{1530}

\Delta t = 0.112 s

Part b)

As we know that frequency and wavelength are related to the speed of the wave as

v = \lambda f

1530 = \lambda (55.3 \times 10^3)

\lambda = 0.0277 m

\lambda = 27.7 mm

A meter stick moves parallel to its axis with speed of 0.96 c relative to you. What would you measure for the length of the stic
Fed [463]

Answer:

The length of the stick is 0.28 m.

The time the stick take to move is 0.97 ns.

Explanation:

Given that,

Relative speed of stick v= 0.96 c

Speed of light c= 2.99793\times10^{8}\ m/s

Proper length of stick = 1 m

We need to calculate the length of the stick

Using formula of length

\Delta l=\Delta l_{0}\sqrt{(1-\dfrac{v^2}{c^2})}

Put the value into the formula

\Delta l=1\sqrt{1-\dfrac{(0.96)^2c^2}{c^2}}

\Delta l=1\sqrt{1-(0.96)^2}

\Delta l=0.28\ m

We need to calculate the time the stick take to move

Using formula of time

t=\dfrac{\Delta l}{v}

Put the value into the formula

t=\dfrac{0.28}{0.96\times(2.99793\times10^{8})}

t=9.72\times10^{-10}\ sec

t=0.97\ ns

Hence, The length of the stick is 0.28 m.

The time the stick take to move is 0.97 ns.

According to the concept of length contraction, what happens to the length of an object as it approaches the speed of light and
lord [1]
When an object moves its length contracts in the direction of motion. The faster it moves the shorter it gets in the direction of motion.
The object in this question moves and then stops moving. So it's length first contracts and then expands to its original length when the motion stops.
The speed doesn't have to be anywhere near the speed of light. When the object moves its length contracts no matter how fast or slow it's moving.

El tren Lima la Orolla va a una velocidad de 10 km/h y de pronto aplica el freno por un derrumbe en la via. Si demora 18 segundo
Naya [18.7K]

Answer:

Distancia = 50.04 metros

Explanation:

Dados los siguientes datos;

Velocidad = 10 km/h

Tiempo = 18 segundos

Para encontrar la distancia;

Conversión:

10 km/h = 10 * 1000/3600 = 2.78 m/s

Distancia = velocidad * tiempo

Distancia = 2.78 * 18

Distancia = 50.04 metros

Por lo tanto, el tren viajaría 50.04 metros antes de detenerse por completo.
